faulty fuel gauge?

I had a full tank of gas today and only 15mi driven on the new tank of gas when I took my girlfriend out to drive. I got a 6spd on my r56 and she stalled it twice which didn't seem like a big deal but when I got back to drive I noticed my fuel gauge was half full. Did stalling out really take up that much fuel? Or is it some problem with the electronics?

Stalling twice and restarting wouldn't normally use much fuel.

You can check your actual fuel level by refilling and comparing how much it took to what your gas gauge read before the refill.

I guess it's possible for stalling to cause a temporary fuel level miss-read, which might self correct.

I'm assuming that she didn't drive it for several hours before you got back behind the wheel, and that she wasn't driving it on track.

she only drove for like an minute in the parking lot and when I got back behind the wheel I drove for about 7min seeing if it would fix itself and it didn't I then turned it off and after a 15min walk I started it again and it didn't fix. I'll drive around a bit more tomorrow and hopefully it wll be fine. I've stalled a few times when I first got it but this never happened.

Watch filling up the MINI the nozzle might click when it really isn't full. How much fuel did you put in when you filled up?

yea that has happened to me at mobile before but the gas stations at sams club always work fine. The gauge read full all the way until that point. So I know it was filled up fully

Batteries that are not fully charged or are the wrong one installed in the car can cause weird electronic glitches. I remember seeing a thread recently where the Mini had the wrong battery in the car from the factory and it caused weird electrical glitches.

Not sure if this is the case but just something else to keep in mind should something else crop up.

today it fixed itself. I don't know what caused it or how but I got in and it worked. I also noticed my range change from 300 to 500
