Bah, USAA loophole

My dealer snuck through it. "applies to cars in stock only". Anyone else get the usaa discount (through the car buying service) on a ordered car?

I did. Two dealerships told me that the usaa discount applied for the month it came in (i.e., if you order it in september and it arrives in november, you have to provide the usaa pricing for november). A second dealership gave me the current month's pricing and ordered the car for me. None of the three dealerships told me that I couldn't use the discount for ordering a vehicle though. Is there another dealership around you perhaps? Sounds like it's maybe dealer specific.

Thanks Micron. Yes, I used the "car buying tool" which spits out a certificate to a dealer 105 miles away (NJ)- who, by distance would not be my first choice. I will discuss the USAA discount with my preferred local dealer and hope for the best. Geez, I can't believe how tough it has been to order a car!

What discount are you getting from USAA?
When I ordered my Clubman in Dec '09, I attempted to use the USAA buying service online but at the time MINI was not listed as a valid choice and wouldn't let me continue.

$1600 over invoice, which is good, if they would have honored it!

davydo,

I was able to use the pricing from the USAA car buying service and get the same discount honored at my dealership. I was in your predicament of having to go out to Annapolis if I used it. I think the local dealership was able to honor the pricing because they'd rather have the sale. I never had to print the certificate or anything. I even brought in the 2012 pricing when I went to pick up my car (since I'd ordered under the 2011 pricing) and they had no problem accepting the pricing info from the website.

It's worth a shot to play the area dealers off each other to get some discount!

Just did the amex configurator and this is in there too:
"Your price relative to invoice applies to cars in stock for this model and trim."

Given that these are such custom cars, I can't imagine you'd ever find exactly what you're looking for, so the dealer has an out.

Unfortunatly, it's actually the same application, and it just pointed me to the same Mini dealer in NJ :(
