Plus you can see what other MINIacs with your same vehicle(s) are getting as well.

I didn't know about this site. I just checked it out...pretty cool. I'll register.....

My car had a defective spark plug. When I got it back, I took the same route back, hit the traffic lights about the same, about the same amount of traffic, 26 MPG!

What I got out of this is, if it doesn't throw an error code, there's nothing wrong with it & they'll just lie to you, tell you normal, & the mileage is calculated on a closed course with a professional driver. I haven't seen that SA there since & I go just about every week to get it washed.
Call me jaded and cynical but over the years I've become convinced that mechanics at dealerships generally either don't know what they're doing or are just too lazy to do any real mechanicing. Back in the day, if you told them there was a problem with the car they'd get under the hood and try to figure out what it was. Nowadays if you tell them there's a problem, if there's no check engine light or the computer doesn't throw a code they will simply tell you that nothing's wrong and won't even bother to try to figure it out. And it's even worse if the problem is related to mileage or something else they can avoid diagnosing by simply claiming "Oh..well...that varies and it's within spec so there's nothing we can do..."

I've had many issues like this with my last couple of cars. It's frustrating as hell. Nothing as frustrating as knowing that there is a problem and having an incompetent or lazy dealer tell you that it's normal and all in your head because the car's computer didn't throw a code.
