I second what grakenverb recommended.
If you plan to get an used one, make sure you are covered by warranty! The Mini Next programme will ensure that.
I got my 07 MCS under this scheme & having driven it for only 2 days, the problems started surfacing. And I had to send it back to the dealer in the first week for repairs.
So bottomline is - make sure you are covered!

I have 2 minis both used both Ss
I like the idea of someone else taking the depreciation hit. If you have the money get a new S. If money is an issue get a mini next used from the dealer. If you have less money get a mini from a non-mini dealer, but get it checked by a dealer to see if its maintenance is current.
Other items are if you get a 2006 coupe or a 2008 convertible you can actually change the radio with an aftermarket unit. I have a 2006 S and have put speakers and an Amp in it. I have a 2008 Clubman S and the radio is too integrated into the car to consider anything like that.
The Clubman is just as fun as a "normal" S and my 73" tall self can sit comfortably in the back seat.
Ss are just better than justas.

1. Hood was unable to open (common issue)
2. Rear windscreen wiper screeching
3. Side mirrors not folding despite having the electric function
4. Both windows get dirty from some grease-like substance whenever I wind them down
5. Something loose in the sunroof but only when it is closed
After leaving my car there for a day, got it back but problems no. 2 & 4 were not resolved. Problem no. 5 only started to happen like last week.
