There is a good write up on an eye-witness account.

I still am blow away by how this happened.

The Canadian gun laws are so restrictive that you'd be arrested for illegal firearm possession long before you could have protected your Mini.

I don't understand any of this. Perhaps I'm not weak minded enough to "get" the mob mentality. Or perhaps it's just that I have never indentifed as part of a group identity... I'm an individual with standards of my own.

Hey! Maybe that's why I drive a MINI... hmmm...

The video IS sad and scary, though...

tear down that stadium.

The Stadium really needs to be torn down and never rebuilt. The A-Holes not only burnt cars but they looted stores and caused a lot of other property damage. They really need to make the ones they caught pay for all of the damage. (ALL OF IT) Of course they will recieve a slap on the wrist and get to go home.

People wonder why they have to pay so much for their insurance. Crap like this has a high cost to everyone. Let the people cought doing the damage repay the insurance company's even if it takes the rest of their stupid idiot lives.

What's funny is, from what I hear from my friends that live in Vancouver and Victoria, the rioting was done by a few hundred people, what we aren't hearing about are the 10,000 some odd people that came out the next day to help clean up, and repair the damage as much as they could.

i've seen coverages of the clean up, although not in the scale of the riot. it's unfortunate that damages has more impact. both are old news, it's virtually forgotten.

I live in Victoria and as I posted earlier i was in Vancouver over the weekend. All of the boarded up windows are covered in anti-rioter graffitti and notes of apology on behalf of the city for the damages, etc. This was definitely a minority of *******s who would have done damage regardless of the outcome of the game.

For those of you not familiar, we also had a riot in 1994 when they lost the playoffs in game 7, but it was much worse. It lasted 6 hours compared to the 3 hours it took this year. The police did a great job IMHO and I am not generally one to praise law enforcement

I was in Hamburg, Germany last year. My girlfriend and I were staying in an apartment off the Reeperbahn. We wandered down to the main strip to find something to eat and were confronted with riot police standing in formations as far as the eye could see. They were in front of all the Metro stations and bar entrances. It looked like a military invasion. We had no idea what was going on. Grabbed some thai food and got out of there!

The next day we spoke with the friend who had lent us her apartment, and she told us the two local soccer teams were playing, and that it was business as usual. There were street brawls that night and blood in the gutters the next day. Hooligans organized to meet and fight and break stuff beforehand, which apparently is nothing new.

What is it about sports?

It wasn't just the MINI that got set on fire. They went after all cars, including police cars. Poor losers.

Is it bad to wish the car would have exploded and killed them all? Really, the world doesn't need any of those pieces of @$#% and would be far better off without them.

Any excuse for abhorrent behavior will do for some. Whether it be sport, political or anger at perceived injustice...even if they aren't a part of the discord, they will join to have some 'fun' at other people's expense and at the cost of a city's good name.

Unfortunately, Vancouver wasn't the first, won't be the last. They're only the most recent.

I think they targeted this MINI because it had some link to Boston, maybe a sticker or something ...
Anyways, I find it very hard to watch sports like hockey and football because of the violence. I don't get the appeal of violent sports at all, and I feel that fans of violent sports are more likely to act this way, especially after a hard loss and a few beers

RIP pepper white MINI

Friuli...here's hoping all goes well with the fires in AZ, it's where I grew up and still have family there. Sierra Vista is a beatitul city too. Good Bless the residents and Fire Fighters you both still have a huge fight on your hands.

Sickening. I don't know if I'm alone here in thinking this, but I've always considered inanimate objects to have souls of their own. Cars, stuffed animals, most anything. Seeing something like this breaks my heart, what did the car ever do to them? Doubt they'd be laughing if they were the ones on fire.
