Can the BMW 1 Series be a glimpse at the future of the Next Gen Mini

We all know that many in the BMW world are crying fowl, at BMW's decisions to venture off into the FWD but can the 1 series be a glimpse at the now codenamed F56 Next Gen Mini????

Take with a grain of Salt:

So that I don't start a new thread; motoring file recently did an article discussing BMW's infusion of 1/2 a billion GBP into Mini UK, to increase its capabilities for the Next Gen Mini

Those are some interesting stats in the second article. As for the first article, MINI's new designer is from BMW, but according to MINIUSA's CEO, he will be continuing the previous designer's concept's for awhile. Therefore, if anything, the BMW one series will start to look like the Cooper, and not the other way around.

I think that its undeniable that Mini will contribute a large percentage to the creation of BMW's FWD platforms; but one can hope that the F56 next gen Mini will benefit too from this relationship

Maybe a more powerful engine for Mini's Cooper S and JCW models...

Well, for starters, the US is getting the 1.5L 3 cylinder engine downgrade in the next gen. models. But with I'm sure that the US will see the 2.0L 4 cylinder in some form that is currently in the SD models.

I don't see where it says it's FWD. It says in the article it's the only RWD car in it's class.

And I think I'm one of the few who actually likes the styling.

I sure hope they are smart enough to leave it alone

If they decide to change the odd shape of the Mini they would ruin the heritage of a great car. The Shape of this car is what I think most people that own them or love them value the most. Change the shape and you will be like every other car out there. Even the Countryman model has the great Mini Shape.

Ain't nothing wrong with "The Flying Brick" It is roomy, good cargo capacity, Comfortable, Fun to drive and nice to look at.

All they should do is improve the quality and comforts and leave the shape alone.

What could look any better then a Mini?

I don't think you have to worry too much about that:

This indeed seems to be exactly the approach they're taking -- which is why the underpinnings of the F56 will likely share much with the 1 Series Bimmer.

Interesting info on the F56 here, including AutoExpress's more-or-less accurate rendering for reference.

Looks pretty sharp to me!
