My First Mini Convertible, Problem with bluetooth

I just got my first Mini Cooper yesterday and I am in love! I bought a 2009 Cooper S Convertible. I'm having so much fun, but I have a question for you all that have bluetooth on your Mini. Anytime I'm not driving, even if the engine is running, people can hear me when I'm using my bluetooth. But the second I start driving, even when the top is up, they can't hear me. I'm pretty upset about it since its one of the reasons I bought this specific Mini.

I'm wondering if its worth looking into fixing, or just leave it? Its pretty hard to drive stick and handle a phone if the bluetooth doesn't work.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks!

I can't help, sorry, but I can agree. The BT microphone is on the steering column in the cab and it just doesn't work while moving. I switched to a BT headset at first but now I have given up on using the phone while moving with the top down.

Same here!

My 2010 Clubman has the same problem. I took it to the dealer twice. The first time they said that b/c the computer showed that it was working properly, there was nothing they could do. The service mgr. told me privately that i should continue to complain and that Mini would have to do something about it. The second time they replaced the microphone and adjusted the sunroof thinking it might cut down on road noise. I'm afraid there is no improvement. i am wondering if we can purchase a higher quality microphone that can filter out the background noise, but i don't know who to ask......

such a bummer

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience too, its such a bummer. On a brighter note, I am more and more, each day, in love with my car. I LOVE it. I think everyone in the world should have a mini. I'm laughing to myself as I type just thinking about what you might think of me.

Anyway, can you believe, I was using the white iphone earbuds while driving and I got a ticket for it (you can't plug both ears)! The irony. I got the specific car because I could bluetooth and drive stick no problem, but now that the bluetooth doesn't work.....and I can't use the earphones......ugh.

Maybe I should start complaining to mini.

I understand your pain, but it's not just Mini. My trucks bluetooth leaves a lot to be desired and I've been in other cars that were no better.

Just a suggestion: I finally picked up one of the new Motorola T215 speakers. They're inexpensive, work well (any speaker is slightly tinny, but this is definitely the best I have used) and have 36 hrs of talk time. Standby is one month, so you are hardly ever dealing with a cord dangling down and even then it only takes about 25 minutes to fully recharge it. I only charge the thing about once every 3 weeks

I have the same issue with both my MINI convertible and my Toyota RAV4. The Toyota is much better because the cabin is quieter but I still have people complain that they can't hear my when I'm at highway speeds. The MINI is impossible to use with the top down and only works well when the car is stopped at a traffic light with the top up.
I still love my MINI and wouldn't trade her for anything.

Same problem here. I've mentioned it in numerous threads and there doesn't seem to be any solution. I did a google search a few days ago and found numerous complaints on different forums. The problem isn't limited to Minis. A lot of people reported that other car brands had similar issues. One thing that a lot of people had in common was that they had iphones and it looks like there might be some kind of issue with the iphone's bluetooth software that adds to the problem.

It's annoying as hell that I paid 500 bucks for a bluetooth option that is pretty much useless. I'm thinking about buying one of those jabra microphones I saw at costco and just turning off the car's bluetooth.
