A "clean" towhook?

I need a good towhook, the nice ones that i see that everyone has where the hook hangs down...where do i find them?

Also, i have a r55 Clubman and the tow hook is in the painted bumper and i dont want to leave the square painted plastic piece removed, i think it looks unclean. Is there a tow-hook that has a replacement painted square with the hole already drilled?

I really dont want to drill a hole through my hole cover...How do all you do your towhook to keep it sleak and clean? Thanks!

Or is there a part number for the plastic cover that i can get primed and drill the hole my self?

Do you think your MINI is going to break down a lot? Why do you want a tow hook hanging off the front? When I go to the track I take the hook out of the boot & screw it in.

If it's a must have Outmotoring sells a nice one....

I have been wondering why some MINIs have them on display. . . is it for looking cool only? Do they serve a purpose? Just curious . . .

There is no easy "Clean" way to do it with a 2nd gen. 1st gen cars have a much smaller circular hole in the lower grill.

There is no purpose other than looking good for leaving a tow hook on. That being said, if you have a car with a ton of "race car" mods (front splitter, rear diffusers, etc) it can look great.

If you have the tow hook permanently on display all it does is provide a person the opportunity to further insult your MINI by saying...."and I see by the tow hook that your car breaks down a lot....should'a bought American!" Besides, IMHO it looks pretty silly....

People like that aren't even worth a response. (The person "insulting" the MINI, not you.)

and these don't look silly.

To each his own - why do you think the are a ga-zillion ways to build a MINI.

Myself, I just know I would bark my shins on the rascal.

Just because you have a tow-hook on, doesn't mean your car "breaks down" alot, its useful if you are fearful of getting stuck in the snow. Up here in NY its handy to have on when Mr. Bloomberg does a shitty job at cleaning up the massive mounds of snow everywhere, although this time around it wasn't so bad. Who insulted your MINI?

I have them front and rear. I can use the rear to tie the mouth to the rear bumber in the twisties because that is the only way he will stay close enough to see it. Looks cool and makes for easy tie down points for when its in the trailer.

If someone hits your front bumper during parallel parking, the rear bumper will be jacked up.

My friend hit the rear of a Hyundai Elantra with her Clubman at slow speed. She had the CravenSpeed Platypus tow hook license plate holder mounted on her Clubman. The post on the Platypus speard into the Elantra's rear bumper and messed it up real good.

I love this style of tow hook, is this the same one as the ebay one Tom posted?

Also, my idea is to take the hook and paint it the same color as my limegreen mirrors and brake calibers. The front needs a hint of lime but i dont want to go crazy and thought this would be absolutely perfect. I love the way the hooks look, very track like and sporty!

I painted the factory hook red and put a "pull to inflate" sticker above it. Great conversation starter!

yeah, I love the look too!

The ebay one looks to be exactly the same as the Aluminum Autotecknic one I bought from http://www.autotecknic.com/product_p/mi-0158.htm. It is functional at 2 ton capacity or roughly ~4000 lbs.

It looks like I may have paid too much . Hopefully the ebay one is solid if you choose to go with that.

cut out

I didn't have a hole-saw, so its not the best of jobs, but at least the cover is back on and it looks better.

Awesome...Thanks all. I think i will end up just drilling a hole in my piece.

Im just woried if i end up screwing it up can i buy a primed piece and have it painted or will i need to get a whole new bumper

Also, Do any of you have issues with the hook coming loose, would you recommend using loctite? (the NON permanent one)

If you leave the tow hook in all the time cutting the whole is okay. If you take it out.....then what? You have hole in your bumper. Perhaps buy another cover just in case. Question is do you want one for show or for function? There are some out there that are just for looks and are cheap. Should you need to actually tow your car (heaven forbid) they won't work.
I painted my stock tow hook red and put it on when i feel like it and it doubled when Mini Road Side actually needed it to flatbed my car. It looks good and stands out on Pepper White.

I just want it for show, I Dont think the paint would hold up to the wench or hook if i ever got stuck. I would just unscrew it and use the towhook in boot if it ever came down to it.

I would like to find a hole cover thats either the color of my bumper or primed so i could just replace it if i choose to take it out, do you hvae a part number? i have searched high and low and my dealers been closed. Ill call them tomorrow and find out if there is a part number for the hole cover. Its the only thing holding me back from ordering the one on ebay

Cut square piece of rubber slightly larger than the openning itself, cut out a circle smaller then the screw on the tow hook. Slide the screw through the rubber and thread into bumper, slide rubber toward bumper until openning is covered. Make sure rubber is of acceptable thickness (pliable) and edges are slightly rounded. Job done!!!!!

Check Penske parts for the covers; about $13 for the front and $9 for the rear (primed).

Checked them and found it...the only thing is they have differnt part numbers for the justa and S and they do not have anything listed for the 11 clubmans. Do you know if they are the same size?

I just ordered the one from fleabay. im not too worried if it can hold or not because ill just pop it out and use the factory one if it ever came down to it. I dont track my mini (YET) but ill let everyone know how it works and if it feels solid.
