I am confused about the "connection to the lighter" part.

The wire goes from the OBDC port to the unit. In back of the unit you can see the wires in the hole like a telephone plug, if they look good and the wired wasn't chewed buy a cat, and you got it plugged into the port firmly, I guess it needs to be sent back.

Have you tried both ports in the back of the unit?

i'll try them again but yes i did try them both. thanks for the replies.

scangauge directions say if it does not power on it's probably a fuse ie the cig lighter fuse 32. but my lighter fuse is fine and the lighter works with gps so unsure..

If it isn't working in both vehicles then it is likely a bad unit.

Strangely enough, mine sometimes powers up (with totally weird numbers) before I ever turn the key. Resets when you crank the car though, so I haven't been bothered by it.

Hello, I return seeking help from anyone with some know how.

Linear Logic sent me a new SG2. It does not power on at all either. When I plug an mp3 player into the cig lighter it works fine. Could anyone instruct me on how to test the obd2 or the fuses? I went to D&R MINI here in Indy today and it will be 112 dollars next Wednesday to have them troubleshoot for just an hour. I'd like to figure this out without their help!!! Please assist!!!!

in conclusion, sg2 won't power on, cig lighter works and is connected. should i check all the fuses? other suggestions?? thanks all!!!!

Plug it into the OBC port with a good wiggle push.
Plug other end into scangauge with a click sound
Turn on key
Press button with red circle (bottom right I think)

More than that I don't know. Keep trying cars, it can't be your car if it doesn't work anywhere.

Autozone auto parts will run an OBD 2 reader on your car for free. If it works then, at least then you'll know it's not your OBD 2 port.

I don't understand why the lighter socket was mentioned?! The scangauge 2 doesn't connect to the lighter socket or ANY other power source. It gets its power from the single OBDII plug.

i just figured it out from other posts on this site, it was fuse F3, heated mirrors. replaced it and everything is AOK.

I believe the thought behind the cigarette lighter was that the same fuse would feed power to both the OBD2 plug and the lighter. I'm not sure that is accurate, though. And from wkp's post above, it sounds like the heated mirror fuse actually is what powers it.

Yep, I read somewhere the power was the same as the cig lighter.. Glad it's fixed. The problem with mine was the obd2 plug had the wrong prongs inside of it. SG sent me a new cord and it worked first time.

Hi, I just got an 06 and ordered a Scan Gauge2, I was just getting to installing it when I thought I would check info here. First I was wondering how hard the cover was supposed to be to open or pull off on the OBD2 plug. I see a couple of pins and it looks like the cover should open, but it doesn't seem to want to. I don't want to break anything here.

XXLiL Mick XX you have an 06 and you needed a different cable? I have a 09/06 build can you maybe give me some incite here? Appreciate it.
Thx
Tracy

It is hinged and IIRC swings forward.

thanks,
I got it, just a bit more force. Hooked up fine and seems to be working well I don't have it tacked down yet, but I am thinking it's going to have to go in the center under the switches since I want to leave it in there. It blends pretty well and I can reach it.

That is where mine is, not the best, but very out of the way and less likely to be noticed and stolen. I got mine mostly to clear codes, but find the info helpful from time to time.
