Tirerack.com frustration

Snowboard rack for MINI...check, Zaino wax initiation kit...check, winter tires from Tirerack.com.....Bueller, Bueller, Bueller.....UGGGGHH! My tires/rims shipped on 6Dec10 and I thought that would be more than enough time to get them overseas to Germany before the holiday season. How in the world did I receive 3 rims/tires about a week and a half ago but am still waiting for an elusive fourth ? So I call on the 17th and they told me that I have to wait 14 business days after shipment for them to send another tire/rim. So I wait patiently until today (the 23rd) and still no tire/rim. I call them back this afternoon and now the response from the rep is that I have to wait 14 days after I initially called them (17Dec) about the claim that the tire had not been received . Has anyone else had this kind of problem with this company? Looks like I won't be gettin' my motoring on until the beginning of the new year .

Never had a problem with Tire Rack. As a matter of fact, they've gone far and beyond to help me out. Once, when Lynette had her car repainted, the idiots doing the work lost the tuner lug to remove the wheels. I called up Tire Rack and they verified we had bought the wheels from them and sent as a new one for free. Another time I bought two Parada Spec 2 tires, and they called to make sure I wasn't installing just two of themnom the car as the tread pattern could cause traction problems resulting in an accident. Sorry you are having problems. You might be better off next time getting your wheels and tires locally in Germany. Anytime you have something shipped overseas, you run the risk of something happening. Keep us posted.

Sounds odd but it is X-Mas and there is mega freight in the system. Being overseas there are different rules they have to go by than if you were in the USA where you are much easier to track down.

Have you put any mile on her yet? My Blk/Blk/Blk JCW will be in about 2 weeks. Your's is loaded up pretty nice too. I did the premium pkg, Heated Seats, Adaptive Xenon, Raining sensing wipers/auto headlights, Headlight Washers, white turn sigs, Mini Connect, Chrome Line Interior, Arm Rest

Going to add Flat Black viper stripes with Red Pin Stipes on the out side edges, Venture Shiled whole hood, Carbon fiber wrapped Mirrors, Scoop,
door handles, gas cap and grill black out.

Sounds like we have the same car . I know that transport can be kinda slow from the US to Germany and also understand that it its the holiday season but am just a bit frustrated with the whole situation. I was ecstatic when I received the first three tires/rims but after a week and a half of not receiving the other one I am just ready to drive it out of the dealership already. Being that my car has summer tires on it the German dealership that it is being released from won't allow me to drive it off the lot without the winter tires on it (new law that started here in Germany on 29Nov10; 40 euro fine for those without ). I would not want to mess up my new baby anyway sliding all over the autobahn and backroads to my house . Nonetheless the wait is killing me LOL!!!!!!

I got new tires for my 2011 JCW from TireRack, they arrived overnight the second day I had the car (I'm in Houston, their nearest warehouse is in Shreveport, Louisiana and regular UPS comes in one day.) I have ordered many times from them and have had a couple of occasions where all four tires did not show up on the same day. That is a shipper issue, not a TireRack issue. Sounds to me though that since it is taking this long, the shipper has lost it, and TireRack is just following its policy of giving the shipper time to make good before duplicating the process and potentially sending you an extra tire. Bummer, but for all the reasons mentioned above, you're probably just going to have to wait. Sorry.

I understand your frustration but it sounds like a shipping company problem, not so much a TireRack problem.

In hind sight it is easy for me to say you should have checked when you did not get the 4th wheel/tire combo with the others but you were probably trying to be a reasonable person.

It is also reasonable to see TireRack's need to verify the wheel/tire was lost. They can't just ship at the first complaint.
UPS once found a lost package of mine 21 days after they were scheduled to deliver. The seller would not reship until UPS agreed the package was lost. So, 21 days of waiting.

Hope it gets there soon so you can enjoy your MINI.

I fell your pain but- this is not a TireRack problem, not a USPS problem but a military transport problem.

Pay the 40 Euro fine and tell the dealer it is your property that they're holding and to release it.

Thanks for all of the support guys . But seriously though, I know this is a common problem with shipments to APO address' but it seems that the customer support is lacking a bit on tireracks side of the house. I have received great service from them in the past with other shipments but before I fielded the call to them I had also sent an email (one to customer service and another to a service rep they have listed on my order) inquiring about some assistance in this area. To date I still have not received a respponse via email. I am however patiently awaiting a call back this evening from them regarding my phone conversation with them earlier today. I will keep everybody up to date on the play by play. Thanks for the insight on other orders that have been placed with them by people on this forum. It will help me sleep a little better tonight as I wait to get my motor on sometime in the near (hopefully not too distant) future.

I really do feel for you but this is a mil issue to be honest. When living over there I shipped two boxes of goods before I left for Germany to my APO address. I received one the first week that I got there and the other three months later. Both were sent priority....

Your wheel could have gotten tied up someplace like customs or is sitting in a container behind your APO buried under the holiday boxes that they are currently getting flooded with. There really is nothing that TireRack can do for you.

Also, per Germany law, you should have had Winters on months ago (end of October) so you were already in the wrong. My advice is to not drive because if you are in an accident and you do not have the proper tires on (you can have M&S tires) your insurance company can drop you and not payout.

It is always hit and miss shipping to APO. Generally they do a good job but this time of the year is hard on them. Hang in there and you will get it soon.

I do not have the vehicle yet. The car is currently at the dealership waiting for pick up LOL (see prior post bruh ). There is no way I would be caught on the road with summer tires the way the weather has been here lately . Much less the 40 euro contribution to the Polezei. Just got off the phone with the customer support rep that I originally talked to and she noted that the message had not been relayed to her for another shipment. Long story short; another one will be shipped out on Montag . Just needed that confirmation. If I ever receive the rogue tire/rim then I will gladly send it back to them and the rep assured me that they will reimburse the shipping cost. Voila! Just like that.....problem resolved.

Sorry, didn't read the sig area.

Well, at least Tirerack is stepping it up, but unless they shipped it priority it will likely take the rest of the month (or longer) to get there. APO shipping move priority right away and the rest gets stuffed into a container until it is full.

I hope that it gets there soon so you can get on the road!

Yeah, I've had similar issues with the APO folks. I ordered winter wheels for my wagon late last year from tire rack and as is their standard, they shipped them in 2 sets of 2. Imagine my surprise when I received 2 single wheels one day The third wheel came in a couple of days later and the fourth didn't make it to the CMR for a week

Still, that being said, I would gladly have an APO again because it likely mean that I am back in Germany!

hi
I understood in the above that this mostly is a shipping problem.
Shouldn't this topic be called "Shipping frustrations" instead of referring to the vendor who hardly has any control over the methods that the shipper uses? Would be more fair, in my humble opinion.

I think the bad weather in Europe also is part of the delay, with airports closing due to heavy snowfall. That leads to problems in other airports, etc etc.
