How long does it take to BUILD a Mini?

We ordered a 2011 Mini S Conv and are wondering how long it is going to take to get it. Can anyone share how long it took; from signing the contract to receiving their car?

Much appreciated!

To "build" a MINI takes less than a week, it's the long boat ride that eats time...

If U live in the NE, SE, or Midwest it'll take about 3 weeks less to get the car than if U live in the West, because those cars have a longer ocean journey via the Panama Canal, which is under renovation.

My 05 S in 2004= 9.5 months, but that was during the high demand/low supply era. some people in the NW waited nearly 3 years

My 09 MCSa in 2008= 110 days, but part of that delay was the new MY switchover and August (factory) vacations

but then I live in the West, so my cars had to go thru BMW's Oxnard CA VDC (Vehicle Delivery Center), the first stop off the boat

That depends on the slot you got...some can be only days away from production, some further....
The dealer should have given you a timeframe....
Once the car is built, delivery time depends on many factors, including on where you live...the NE us is usually the ships first stop (NJ/NY), then down to the Carolina's..Charlston, I think, then FL...
Not sure where your area's cars come from....(by port of orgin)and I don't know the rout they take to the west coast.
The wait can be painful, but it is worthwhile...
Back in 2004 I ordered my car in June...it did not enter production till November, and was delevered to me Dec 23rd!! As you can see, the scheduled production date makes a huge differance.

ordered my 2011 clubman s November 15th and my car is "produced not shipped" meaning its on the dock to be loaded onto the ship. i live in NJ so im pretty sure im the second stop the boat makes.

mine will be on the "Faust" and reading up and watching documentaries about it they only have 8 hours to unload the ship (ship holds 8000 luxury cars)

My car was completed in under a weeks time, its been held up in shipping for a little bit then moved to the port, my dealer claims my car was on rush order status to get here by years end but its not looking to good..im not sure what rush order status really is. All they told me was I jumped ahead of alot of Mini customer ......

I ordered my 2011 MCS 2 weeks ago, unfortunately since its during the holidays the production wont start until the new year. So thats 2 extra agonizing weeks to wait, and for the cherry on top.... I live in Hawaii. So I have a long wait ahead of me worth it though!

I ordered my Clubman on Nov 7th, and drove it home on Dec 28th. Could have brought it home Christmas Eve if other things hadn't required my attention. It's a good week quicker if you're on the east coast; cars headed for the west coast go through the Panama Canal. The waiting is the hardest part!

I ordered my car on Nov. 19th. it was done with production on the Nov. 29th.
I got luckky because they were doing JCW production run for JCW's with Mini Connect and/or Nav. They gave me a build slot they had for another car which was an S. My car was in production 4 days after i ordered it and that included a weekend. The 30th they shipped it to the dock and it sat 9 days waiting for a boat to the west coast. On Dec. 30th it was dropped off in CA with 438 other Mini's. I am waitng for it to clear the VDC and shippment to Seattle. I should have it around the 10th of Jan. my MA said it is the fastest they had even gotten a custom ordered JCW which are done in groups. year end has helped as Mini was trying to get as many cars delivered as possible for 2010.

Just talked to my dealer a few days ago about ordering a MCS or Clubman S. I was told within 8 weeks. That is for delivery to Oklahoma.

My understanding, depends on what model you are buying, when that model is scheduled for production, and if your dealer has an available production slot. Higher volume dealers tend to have more slots they can swap you in for (paid CTO vs dealer stock slot)

I go in tomorrow to order mine.. Dealer told me today that it wont take long.. The way I understand it.. It takes about a week to build and the rest of the time is all travel time.. Also sounds like they are really pushing them out the door to get ready for the change over for the 2014..lol.. Also it sounds like the dealers are really scrambling to get some extra MINIs to sell because they are shutting down earlier then normal for the the new change over... But then again this is just what I heard..lol..

Good thing & just in time. ... Braminator posted the following thread:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...der-a-r56.html

Sounds like after this weekend those wanting a hardtop have buy out of inventory or wait for the 2014s if they want CTO.

LOL... To answer the title question, it takes about 20 hours to build a MINI.

After reading this thread, the title should have been, "How long does it take to get delivery"

I ordered a CM S 4/12. Production started 4/22 and was complete 4/30. My vehicle has been sitting at the port waiting for a boat almost two weeks now. I was hoping for late May or early June delivery but that likelihood seems to be getting more and more unlikely.

I was told 5-7 weeks. He showed me the screen and went into detail about how it works. Basically each slot is already filled. It may not be a customer order, it could just be an order the dealership made for the lot. Each slot is either red, which means it's already in production, yellow, which means it goes into production "within days" or green, which means you've still got time to fill it. For example the dealership I was at had one slot for a Clubman which was already filled by a dealership configured car and was "yellow" while the other clubman slot was still green, but a month out before production on that slot even starts. Also, they have weeks (that don't follow the calendar, probably just follows their fiscal calendar) and I could see how some the same week for that first clubman slot were already started. He also told me that Countryman models take a bit longer since they come from "the port in Graz." :D Anyway, I got what he meant.

updates please

Hey since there has been any recent updates, can anyone let me know at the end of 2020 with the pandemic effecting everyone everywhere what the status is on ordering? I ordered but one sort of like the one I want is in stock out of state and not sure whether to pursue it or not. I am concerned the dealer's time estimate is not accurate and like most people second guessing my decision. Thanks

'production' is one factor

shipping is another ... I believe someone recently mentioned a large backlog of cars waiting to get on ships in Southampton ....

COVID has hit the shipping industry hard .....

this is a few years back but see all the pretty MINI waiting their turn at Southampton port . . .

As I am getting no response from the dealer today which makes me concerned, can anyone tell me if the plant shuts down for the holidays in December and if so when and for how long?
