Those appear to be engine codes. N12B16A appears to refer to a 2nd Gen base MINI (aka Justa Cooper). W10B16A refers to a 1st Gen base MINI.

Technically the 2nd gen motor is the Ep6dt and ep6dts.

I can't really find anything about the Tritec other then the fact that it is a similar version used in the PT loser.

So you think the Prince engine is better?

With the carbon buildup issues as a result of the direct injection, I think the Tritec engine is the better design.

In practice the Prince is more effiecent. The tritec can make great power in is not the end all be all of motors as so many here and the MINI community believe. The Prince has its issues and so does the Tritec. The max potential has pretty much reached with the Tritec and it has not been reached yet in the Prince. I think once it is reached they are pretty much going to be the same thing and it is going to boil down to do you want a first gen or second gen becuase of looks and looks alone.

Not sure, but if you look on the MINI UK configurator for the Countryman, it lists the numbers with the models.

Countryman:
N16 = One, Cooper
N18 = Cooper S
N47 = One D, Cooper D

Also, the Tritec engine was only used in PT Cruisers overseas...not in the US market.
