Turns out my Cooper S can take a punch

On Wednesday, I was on my way to work when the douchebag in the lane to my left decided to let someone coming the other way make a left in front of us. The silver Camry pulled into my lane and I had time to slow down just enough so that my airbags didn't go off. I hit him in the front quarter panel and ripped his front wheel pretty much off, shattered the bumper and broke his washer fluid reservoir. The Mini was drivable and I took her into a really good BMW/Merc/Mini body shop on Thursday.

It smashed off one of the bumper plates on my car, crunched the top grill, bent my hood and loosened the hood scoop and a headlight trim ring. It also seems to have made a few marks on the rest of the bumper cover. All told, I'm pretty impressed when you consider how smashed up the Toyota was.

The accident was ruled his fault and I have a rental Honda Civic DX (what a piece of ****!) until mid next week.

I can't wait to get my car back!

That sucks.
Glad you're OK. I never let anyone turn left on a multi-lane road. Its no courtesy, just dangerous.

In California, if you have the right-of-way you are required to take it. Not doing so causes confusion and collisions.

Glad you are OK, but I'd guess they body shop bill is going to be over $5K.

I was almost in an accident like that once.

Don't forget to treat the Honda like the rental car it is.

Glad you're OK. I've almost been in a couple of accidents like that. Drivers that let someone turning against the right of way like to think they're being courteous, but it's extremely dangerous. Drives me nuts. Sorry your ride got banged up.

Remember:

Half the people on the road are effing morons and shouldn't be allowed to handle a sharpened pencil, much less a 2-ton piece of machinery.

The other half are simply out to kill you.
