General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
I was supposed to pick up my MINI today at Ralph Schomp. She is in for a new clutch, flywheel, and bearing, but unfortunately they called and told me she needs a new tranny! So another 2 weeks, tranny coming from Germany, so I'll go pick up my loaner instead!
Anybody know if Schomp has loaner MINI's? I'll just be happy to have a car, but it would help if I could drive a MINI even if it isn't my baby......
Wow, sounds like a drag!
How many miles on that tranny? Did you break it, or did it just wear out?
Got the traction control light today, accelerating in 1st gear. This was after a rolling start; I got on the throttle and after a bit I realized I wasn't accelerating quite as much as I should. Then I noticed the TC light was on.
I wonder if I would have had some torque-steer without it? Hmm...
There was around 76000 on the tranny. I drive pretty easy most of the time, so I think it wore out. I was in the interstate going about 80 mph when it went out. The previous owner drove it pretty hard I think. (I've had to replace bent wheels and the right front axle as well!)
I'm hoping there is nothing else BIG that I'll have to replace!
I am wondering about maintenance on the supercharger...... Is it something I can do myself?
Replacing the S/C is actualy IMO easyer than doing a pulley swap. Yes there is quite a bit of work involved, but it's pretty straight foreward. You just need to be comfortable with a wrench.
Just noticed you are somewhat local, I can help with just about anything.
Had acouple of things taken care of under warranty. Timing chain tensioner, passenger headlight, passenger side flasher, and chrome ring on keyfob replaced. Also they replaced the rear brakes and wiper inserts under the free maintenance.
Got my Light in Sight (finally decided my neck needed a break) and after re-reading the instructions figured out the SMOOTH side goes against the windshield (sometimes I'm a bit of a dummy). Anyways, I am a happy motorer who can now see the traffic lights when I pull up nearly under neath them!
nope, i spun in an empty intersection instead of turning right. i think i may take sprint-booster out for the winter... i had a sudden pulse of throttle
I spun out on some scree while zipping around a hairpin turn coming down Mt. Graham a couple months ago. I ended up a little past sideways in the road, facing the mountain. Whee! What a ride!
it's this cold white crap that falls from the sky, makes everything all slippery and points out the bad drivers in a town.
Just yanking yer chain, Rusty. Before I moved to Hell's Forge, I grew up in New Jersey.
I remember once back in '87 coming around Trenton on I-295 just as the rain was turning to slush. I felt the car get a little "squidgy" and eased up on the gas only to have the back end of the car break loose, leaving me rolling at 60 MPH backwards down the interstate. I grinned and waved at the poor guy in the little Toyota pickup who was tailgating me when it happened. He looked like the guy in that famous Munch painting - eyes bugged out and mouth agape in horror - and I bet he had to change his skivvies when he got home....
