I once asked "which vehicle". He responded "the last one you bought". I said "I lease my cars". He hung up.

I get these frequently, and always file a report w/ the FTC, just so they get an overwhelming flood of complaints so maybe they'll do something about it.

What do you think of the extended warranty offered by MINI?

all you are doing is paying to extend the current warranty...shouldn't be any different besides length of term.

Yeah I got those calls last year when my 3/36k warranty was coming up. Funny thing was, I got the calls after I had extended mine to the 6/100k warranty with MINI at my dealership. First couple of times I didn't even pick up because the number was blocked but one day, out of curiosity, I picked up. I forget exactly what he said but it was something like "Hi, would you like to extend your warranty?" I pretty much replied with "Uhm... I already got it extended" knowing that something was fishy about the call since I started getting them about two or three weeks after I got my official extension. The guy sounded like he was lost "Oh.. uhh. ok..." and hung up. I just laughed. Needless to say, I still got the same calls for about a couple of months after that but I never picked up again.

If I were to spring for an extended warranty Id do it thru my dealer. NQA when it comes time to pony up for that uberpricey repair with minimal deductible. they tried to sell me one early on but I was too busy attaching JCW goodies to my car. If my 09 is a keeper I may consider it.

When I got rid of my 05 S last summer I was getting these annoying 3rd party EW calls at work all the time, until I told them I was a powerful Fed that could forever ruin their lives should they continue to call this number, no more calls.

Most people can't pronounce my first name. When they ask for the name they can't pronounce, I just say, "There's nobody here by that name!" True!

Who answers the phone anymore? I look at the number and if the caller ID doesn't give a name, I don't answer.

I wil pick up the phone tell them to hold on & then just walk away,20 minutes later most are gone. When my daughter was younger like 3-4 I would hand the phone to her. I did have a dog that would bark into the phone.

You just answered what a scam is. Them trying to use any means on trying to take your money

Law of large numbers. Someone is going to go "Oh no!" and hand over their info. Even if they don't get you on the hook for the 'extended warranty', once they've got your personal information, they can sell that to anyone and everyone under the sun and still get a little bit of cash from that one call.

I'm just glad it's so widespread that they've hit important enough people that those folks are now pissed as well.

I think their punishment should be to have their personal phone numbers published online for the rest of their lives, and bar them from the Do Not Call list.
