Rubber floor mats slipping - ideas?

OK, I did a search, but the solution seems to be some velcro discs that didn't come with my used car. I'm looking for other solutions that are cheap.

My all-season mat, (driver's side) in my 06 cabrio keep slipping and moving forward so that it catches on my clutch pedal when I depress it. My 05 MCS never had this problem so it must have had the discs. I'd like to fashion something velcro to keep my mats from slipping forward but I cannot recall what these discs look like, or where they attached...

Does anyone know what they are called and if I can order some? And if not, how I can make my own?

Thanks!

I didn't get the velcro discs either. I bought some sticky backed velcro (industrial strength) and stuck it to the back of the mats. It grips the carpet very well with no slippage.

On the driver's side, there were two plastic pins in the carpet where the velcro should have been mounted. I tried just pushing the pins through the velcro and into the floor, but they didn't hold it down tight enough, so i eventually just stuck the velcro to the mats instead. You could probably get a screw to hold the velcro down though, if you prefer.

Go to Michael's (or a fabric store, or other craft store) get some adhesive backed velcro disks at the store. I think they should probably be about a one or two inch circumference. Velcro comes in all sorts of sizes and shapes, pre-cut. Stick them to the floor mats, then stick those down to the carpet. You *shouldn't* need to put another piece of velcro on the floor... but if you do or would prefer to do this, I'd recommend just adhereing it directly to the carpet rather than nailing or screwing the discs to the floor.

If you have trouble getting it to stick, ask the folks at the craft store for ideas. You will be amazed at what they will come up with.

Thanks everyone. Why didn't I notice these discs in my last car? Weird.

Your MINI is not the new vert is it? My best guess is that if the dealer threw the mats in with the car they gave you ones for an R56. I have the MINI rubber mats in my 06 & they don't go anywhere. They fit in there so tight it is almost impossible for them to move.

I had a loaner R56 with rubber mats & they were moving all of the time.

No, it is an 06. Bought it used. My old car was an 05 MCS and I had the same mats - I took them out all the time to clean them but I can't remember those discs.

Does anyone have a picture? This is really bothering me that my memory is so bad.

My mats do not have a disc either. I wonder how mine stay so tight in there & yours move. I'd guess the dealer could get you those discs if you need them.

Yeah, at dealer prices too, I'll bet.

I'm gonna try the home made solution first. Maybe I'll ask about them when I go in for Inspection I in a few thousand miles.

I have a set of four "Floormat Retention Devices" that came in a bag of goodies with my previous MINI.

I've never needed them. If you'd like, you can have them.

Driver's side rubber floor mat in the R56 is the only one that has the velcro tabs on it it's built into the floor mat. Peel it up and you'll hear the velcro ripping sound. The others mats in the car do not. My driver's mat never moves, but I have to adjust the other floor mats all the time.

Still I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. I've had the car almost a year... and the carpet still looks like brand new.

I dealt with this issue successfully with minimum expense, mostly a little time.

I posted later on that same thread with a couple of pictures. Hope this helps.

I am not sure if this will work, but I know it works on hard wood floors. Take some plain old Silicone Caulking to the bottom of the mat. Let it dry completely and hopefully it will provide you with some extra grip.

Nice to see that this has been covered. Thought it was a little strange that they didn't install the discs at the dealer when they through the mats in. Little detail that would have been nice. Asked my dealer for them over a week ago(I'm 1-1.5 hrs away)...still no velcro discs....I'll suffer for a few more weeks and then drive down there I suppose.

Sliding floor mat solution

Don't know how this will work with rubber mats, but they're super with my carpet mats. I stuck in a couple of extra postings with little more detail to follow up. One includes pictures. Hope this solves the problem and saves you a trip to the dealer. The original post was #47 if that helps.
