Leaving the MINI for 5 months

So I have to leave the country for my job, which in turns means I need to let my MINI sit for that time. I'll be able to garage the car and cover it but I was wondering if there are any precautions to take.

Should I put the car on blocks so I don't ruin the tires or will just 5 months not do that. Whats the best place to put them since this car will be unattended.

I don't want to just list a hundred questions here. But any advice would be excellent. Imagine you were leaving your baby for 5 months, what would you do? Other than cry

Thanks everyone.

Five months isn't really "long-term storage" as far as modern cars are concerned. I'd hook up the battery to a smart charger like the "Battery Tender", make sure the gas tank is full, and add some "Sta-Bil" to the gas. Make sure you drive the car for a few minutes after adding the stabilizer so that the treated fuel makes it all the way through the system.

I don't suppose you have a link to this post? I can't seem to find it. The search functions aren't exactly the best on this site

There is a company in Maryland that will store your MINI for about 100 a month. They will make sure it is moved regularly so no tire damage, and battery is charged. In a certain area they will even pick up the car.

Check with your insurance company. Most have reduced rates when stored at a facility.

I checked them out. I'm trying to maximize profit for my 5 months out so I don't know about putting it there. I'll have nothing to spend my money on otherwise so I hopefully will come back with a nice chunk of change. They did have a nice section on getting the car prepared for storage which was helpful.

I'll have to pick a good time to get my car prettied up and ready to be left in a garage :(. Man I'm going to miss it

It also can make the pistons in the calipers stick. If that happens, the pads can drag on the discs and nothing good will happen...

I think the above suggestions pretty well cover it. I assume this garage is really secure and in a safe area. I would be sure there are no combustible materials stored there. If you take the tires off and could store them in a different location, then a thief could drive it away.
