Traveling Puerto Rico with your MINI...
So my boyfriend from the states is coming with me to Puerto Rico for Spring Break and even though I live there...I feel like I don't have enough sightseeing and cultural entertainment for us to do while we're there.
Since we both love our Mini Coopers I figured we could drive around the whole time and go to different places.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'd love to focus on the West side of the island since I live in San Juan.
Please let me know! Thanks!!!

Hola corazon:
You could go to Arecibo and visit one of the largest radio-telescopes in the world (I think Cornell University maintains it).
Other places....
Parque De Bombas in Ponce (I think Ponce is on the south side)
La Parquera
Plaza Colon in Mayaguez
Culebra National Wildlife Reserve
Boqueron
Fajardo coastal area
Plaza de las Delicias
Lots to do and see downthere. Just plan accordingly.

Traveled from Ponce back to San Juan in a rented Buick Rendevous following someone who new the local roads. We traveled on mostly 2 lane roads with many tight turns, switchbacks and elevation changes. It was either Route 149 or 155, I can't remember. Not nearly as fast as Route 52, but far more entertaining. The person who was driving was almost giddy. Enjoy your vacation
You really think he's coming to see the island or a car?
I think there's only one thing he's coming to see................and that's YOU!

Of course he is there to see his girl. The car roadtrip and the island are the icing on the cake!
Hey, when are you guys going to be in Puerto Rico? I'm going down to visit my Dad and get out of the cold for a few days next week.
I've been to Arecibo and the drive is pretty good but expect it to take all day depending on where you are on the island. Also, if a new moon happens to fall within the visit the luminous bays are pretty darn awesome.
You drive your MINI there? You got chutzpah lady. I don't think I've been anywhere that they turn 3 lanes into 5 and speed limits are universally ignored. I'd love to drive Ferris there, unfortunately, I'll be stuck in a dumb rental.

There's a great restaurant/hotel out the west gate area of the old Ramey Air Base called La Cima ( http://www.lacimahotel.com/ )... plus some great uncrowded beaches in the area...
My wife and I just returned last night from PR - saw lots of MINI's in San Juan area but we had a Kia (ugh!) rental.
Years ago we went on a cave tour with Aventuras Adentro (?) into Cueva Los Angeles - adventure of a lifetime! See nytimes.com search travel Puert Rico and you will find an excellent write up. this is caving with helmets, etc. not the big tourist cave.
Also recommend restaurant Ostra Cosa - Calle Cristo - Old San Juan - the prawns!
Would normally recommend the hot springs at Coamo (where we were married) but they are closed for reconstruction. Ask me how I know.
Utuado Taino ceremonial gronds is real cultural destination.

Sounds just like Miami!
