Betty got beat up and molested

That's right, someone else picked a fight with her, though she was tough, and manage to fight them off before she was emptied, she was left weakened.

Both front side windows were smashed, contents were rumaged through.. They took some American Cash, Oakleys, and Radar Detector, and the transformer for my interior lights, (I think they thought it was for the radar detector), Coin holder (Laurie I will require another one)

They did not take, a VISA card, my passport, GPS, MINI model (thanks Adam), MINI jacket, Candy, CD's (guess they don't like my music), they left a CDN $10 (tourists?)

Holy smokes! Sorry to hear about that... I guess the damage and loss could've been worse but that's just sickening. Good luck witht he repairs and such, at least it seems a pretty straightforward vacuuming, cleaning and window replacement. Be sure you have the insurance adjuster see it while messy though!

Sorry it happened to you but I have to ask, why do you keep so much valuable stuff in your car? It is just asking for it to get broken into.

Isn't this the second time this has happened, in about two years?

Xiek, I think someone's got it in for you. Does Canada have any hate crime laws?

Not sure if I will go through Insurance or not, if it's worth it.. Doubtful they will re-imburse the cash.

The valuable stuff was not in plain sight. so they broke in taking a chance. Could have been someone that I pissed off at some point.. not sure..

Nothing they took, could be seen through the windows.

Gromit, we do have hate crime laws, but the last one was done in a town 8 hrs north of where I was this past weekend..

Yes, I never keep in valuables in the car. Simply asking for trouble. We are living in troubled times so expect vandalism and theft to go on the rise.

Did the break in happened in Canada or the US?

And off topic....I really, really like your Union Jack door inserts...Where did you get them?

Hope you get your glass replaced soon.

Insurance companies are weird about cash. One of my friends' house got broken into a couple years ago, and had $350 "emergency money" stolen and the insurance company wouldn't cover it. In February, however, another friend had his house broken into and had $500 stolen (Chinese New Year necessitates having that much cash) and the same insurance company covered it, no questions asked (didn't even ask for a withdrawal slip!). I always keep my withdrawal slips, anyways.

But sorry to hear about that :( it saddens me when I have to refrain from washing my car in the winter for fear of it "standing out", and when I have to park with the nose "in" to hide the stripes because they might look too flashy. My friend's Evo (which he worked super hard for) with racing stripes got keyed, presumably by some envious passer-by.

I think MINIs are targeted because they are unusual attention getting cars. I'm constantly shooing kids off my car, for instance. It's tough about the break in. That's a particular kind of deflating experience.

Just what is it about the unusual, or unusually beautiful that invites or provokes hostility from people? My two cents is that vandalism translates into a cheap form of ownership for some. What a world.

B%^&*Tards!

I remember seeing your mini when you modded your door's UJ panels. You have a really great looking MINI, and maybe that is what drew their initial attention.

My best advice in this case is not to live your life in fear, hold your head high and walk with power. The fact your MINI was hit twice is just a (bad) sign of the times, and a testament for; Three Strike Laws and Minimum manditory sentences.

I would file the insurance claim anyways and get her fixed, and better than new if possible. At the very least make sure the authorities (RCMP's?) are aware of what happend for future pro-active patrols.

The reason why items like your Visa Card and Passport were not taken is because those are items that would tie the suspects directly to this crime. Better for them not to have those things on their person if questioned, so they were probably on foot without a vehicle and even live (haunt) nearby places. IMO, they have done this before and do it often, and most likely have some sort of past criminal record(s).

Hope she is put back together soon ! We feel your pain....

Yeah, what were you thinking of, leaving your sunglasses and your radar detector in your car!

Sorry to hear what happened, but out of curiosity is it a common occurance in the area where you were when it happened?
