But seriously, my insurance is 113 dollars cheaper because i'm driving a MINI. USAA has this thing that discounts based on the make of car. Somthing about its good crash rating. Anyone else have this same type of deal going on with their insurance?

Its funny bc my 89 520i is more expensive lol

My insurance keeps creeping up like $10 every 6 months because of "claims experience." Quit crashing your MINIs, people!! But the MINI is pretty cheap with State Farm - my old Alero was almost as much for PL/PD as the MINI is for full coverage.

I have State Farm as well, and for a 2006 MCS convertible, and my premiums are only $44/month, with 100/300/100 coverage limits and $100 deductible for comp/$250 deductible for collision. I can't imagine many cars being much cheaper.

We also have State Farm, though I'm not paying $40/Mo. I did just get the nice little notice of a Premium Increase, "The claim experience on your make and model of vehicle has resulted in an increase to your vehicle rating group for comprehensive and/or collision coverage."

OK people...these are GoKarts...NOT...BumperCars!!

I think the premiums may drop off fairly quickly as the car ages. We haven't changed any coverage limits or added/deleted any cars from our policy since getting the two MINIs in 2006, but I just looked though my old insurance statements and saw that the premium on mine (currently $44/month) used to be $72/month when the car was new. We also haven't gotten any of the "The claim experience on your make and model of vehicle has resulted in an increase to your vehicle rating group for comprehensive and/or collision coverage." notifications on our policy in the past three years, either.

Greeting from BC Canada. It sounds like you have it pretty good down south. Last month I bought a 2009 Mini Cooper. I have a 43% discount on my (Government run) car insurance & I'm paying just under $2200. anually. Granted I could pay only the basic & get away with paying alot less, but nowhere near $44/month that you mention.

Hello to a fellow British Columbian and... a fellow Coquitlam-er! Yeah, ICBC can be pretty steep. We have basic with ICBC and premium with Canadian Direct.

If it were insured under my name, it's be close to $4,000 a year (< 5 years with a full drivers' licence--no N) but between my mum and I we have two cars, so I can drive either one up to half the week. Ridiculous.

Come on down to the good old City of Los Angeles. My Mini is about $1,800 a year. Wife's car is about $2,000, yet it cost $20,000 more than the Clubby.

We have no tickets or accidents in ten years, and our carrier is one of the cheaper ones around.

Glad you're so happy. But I know of no major insurance company that does not use the Make/Model of your vehicle when computing your premiums.
It's called an IRG, Insurance Rating Group, and it's assigned to every make/model/year of vehicle based on the cost of repairs to that vehicle.

Again, glad you're happy... you would be happier in a Kia though.

My insurance went UP when I got the MINI a few months ago (only by a few dollars though). I was expecting at least some decrease, since the MSRP on this car is about half of the car it replaced.

The Kia comment was a joke. But yes, the cheaper the car, the generally cheaper it is to repair, the generally cheaper it is to insure. Since you were so happy with a lower rate for your MINI.....

I'd be happier if you bought a Kia. Please, everyone buy a Hyundai and a Kia to drive in the winter and for when you need to buy things from Ikea. In addition to the MINI of course - multiple car discounts.

You are lucky to make it to 23 with tons of tickets and wrecks.

I am paying lots more for my 08 Mini than my Porsche 997 911, almost 50% more. Go figure.

How old is your 997? The premiums on my '06 MINI have dropped almost 40% from when it was a brand-new car.

Heh, maybe I shouldn't relate my story then... My MINI is around twice the MSRP of my current car (07 3dr Hyundai Accent SE) and my rates are going to go down.

Needless to say, it's happy news for me

Keep in mind, auto premiums are affected by MANY factors... depending on your company, up to 30 or more. So, changing vehicles, while sometimes a large factor, is not the only one by a long shot. Makes it hard to tell the exact affect the change of vehicles had on your rate.

My insurance rates doubled once I bought my used MINI. I'm a 25 year old female. I pay nearly $1200 a year. That's with 2 cars on the plan, no wrecks, and one measly little ticket years ago with a different car. How I love Allstate.

That's a fair point actually, I did just turn 30. State Farm's figures on safety and payouts are all in the Mini's favor, but perhaps the Accent (on renewal) would have ended up with yet lower premiums.

Either way, I'll have a much better car and lower insurance so I'm happy

'05. The C2S started at just a little more than the Mini and has steadily dropped. The Mini is rising and it is a lot for the car.

Still happy to have you be able to join our forum.

Have fun in your Mini but not too much. Be sure to use the track if you get the urge to speed.
