Window tint costs
Window tint costs
I am finally getting my car tinted and got some quote Automall is charging $350 cash for all windows and moonroof using Suntek HP.......Omega is about the same. With Ceramic it would cost $450-$500......is this about right? I know it might be cheaper in other parts but in Norcal is this the going rate?
Just be aware. In California it is illegal to put ANYTHING on the front windshield, and front drivers and passengers side windows. Whatever tint the factory has included in the glass, is all that's allowed, because that only goes to a certain percentage of tint.
While it is true the CHP don't usually pull people over for tint alone, they WILL ding you for it if you get nailed for speeding or something. The exception to that, is if a cop is killed and they're feeling nervous about cars they can't easily see into. Then, I have seen them pull over cars for tint alone.

What if the person is a NAM member, but a Bengals fan?

I'm in the SF Bay Area as well.
I got my first MINI done at Omega Tintworks in Pleasanton for $350, Lumar ceramic. This was for five windows (no sunroof) back in August. He's very meticulus and I'd use him again. I got 50% all around (see my gallery).
My buddy when to to Rocky Mountain Windowtint in Livermore. They use formula 1 ceramic and think it was $375 for five windows. He was very happy with the work.
One of my first mods will be to get tinting with my MINI arrives in late Feb.

From the CHP website:
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

- The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
- If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.

FYI - I had checked out a couple different "Tint" locations in town and couldn't decide which to use. So, I stopped into a VERY high end collectors sports car dealer (just about everything is $100k+++) near my office to get some recommendations. Turned out they had a guy who was on call to tint their cars as needed.
Not only did he have a very reasonable price, I could feel comfortable knowing that he worked on cars with VERY PICKY owners.
Long story short, check out who handles higher end cars in your town. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Good luck!
