Marine Corps 2002-present

Went MECEP (enlisted to officer) as a Sergeant in 2005, commissioned May 2008. Currently a 2nd LT in Air Traffic Control.

First Mini was BRG/B MCS. Sold in August 2006, worst mistake ever...

Currently looking at 09 MCS or JCW Hardtop

Other than the MP thing, what are you - my doppleganger?

I went to some little college near Sierra Vista, and did Schweinfurt for my first tour post-OCS. Loved it. Went to the States for 10 months for school, came back (to Wiesbaden) for an 8 year stretch -- 4 there, 4 in Heidelberg. Left only after being asked to sign to extend again. Lucked out, got orders for Hawaii, though I am half a world away right now.

Dude, Las Vegas SCCA is hoping to attract more Mini's to the autocross events. We went to one at the Speedway Bullring right across the runway from your work.

Secondly, not to drag this off topic, but I'm currently deciding about joining the Air Force... I have always regretted not joining out of High School and now at 25, I'm seriously interested. I've talked to recruiter, have yet to do a physical and the ASVAB. Took a prelim for the ASVAB and scored 80+ so basically (from what the recruiter said) have the option of looking at any field... Ultimate goal is pilot...I'd have to accomplish it by the age of 28 though...

So, my questions, would you do it over again if you had the choice? Is there anything that you would give me as advice (you can PM me if need be to keep this from straying off topic).

Again, thank you for your dedication to this country. I have always honored those in uniform.
To be a pilot, you have to have a BA in something, preferably engineering or Aeronautics. Those will take you to the top of the selectee list for OCS and pilots training.

I'm glad I served. I did my years during a weird time. Very soon after Vietnam, and the public's attitude towards the military was still pretty negative.

As far as should to to what you want to do at your age, what will you be doing at that age if you don't follow your dream?

A few times a year the base opens the flightline up to LV SCCA for a autocross event. Unfortunately everytime they held an event on base there was something going on where I could not participate. Now I am away from Las Vegas for at least 3 1/2 years.

Yeah, actually in Iraq. HQ, 25th ID. Got there in time to grab a weapon and hop a flight. At least it'll be a nice place to visit on R&R....

I'm retired Navy and if I had to do it all over again...

I'd join the Coast Guard...they have the best Officer Programs. I currently work for the Coast Guard as a Civilian.

Yea gads, all these lifers. I was in '69-'72 and was glad to get out !!! Not glad when I got back home though, times were tough back then. My prayers and thoughts go out to our boys serving now where ever they may be.

No, No, No, you've obviously never been to Ft. Bliss, Texas! Sorry, but no military base, outside Iceland, beats that place for the arm-pit/butthole of the US Military.
