Drunk teen ruins New MINI day after it was gifted to him
The article is way funnier than the actual incident. They truly do tell it like it is, but keep in mind, the Sun is a bit of a joke as a reputable newspaper. It's almost on par with our National Enquirer. "Italian Yob" just might be a great screen name for this forum. Can I change?
I do think that there are some kids that would totally appreciate getting a ride like that. If I were to buy my daughter a MINI for her first car, or even hand Viola down to her, she would not let other people even look at the car funny. She would be out there in the driveway every weekend, washing, detailing and vacuuming and I know she would institute a no beverage, no french fries rule in her car. She gives my friends dirty looks if they lean on my car and won't let her friends put their hands on the roof (fingerprints show on the black roof real bad). She's more picky about my car than I am.
My son, on the other hand, not so much. I'd have to make him pay for the MINI himself... and it would have to be his second car, then he would get serious about it and take care of it.
Kids are different and their attitudes toward things are different, even when they are raised by the same parents. I don't feel that parents have 100% of the control over how their children view the world. All we can do is set them on the path and point them in a general direction.
I suppose the difference between me and the parents in this article though, is that I know my kids well enough to not buy my son a new car as a gift and I think that is where the real problem lies, particularly in situations like this. Many parents have no idea who their kids actually are.

How sad. That MINI would have been a great car for a person who could really appreciate such a gift.
I hope that car gets fixed up, good as new - and sold to someone who could take care of it the way it should be.
Am I the only one to wonder if the strut towers got mushroomed? lol

This kid could be a bad seed or product of bad parenting, who knows.
+1 on "not raised correctly" - the parents, that is.
The Harrow-educated idiot drunkenly climbed into his new £10,000 car to attempt the stunt from the 1969 movie in which crooks drive down church steps in a getaway scene.
But the posh prat came a cropper in the silver vehicle, given to him the day before by his rich parents.
It piled into the steps of his digs at 30mph, causing the radiator to blow up, the two front tyres to burst and both airbags to explode.
Six security staff, two police cars and a helicopter were scrambled to arrest the 18-year-old for drink-driving at 1am. A second student escaped from the car at Bristol University’s Wills Hall.
Earlier the pair roared around the halls at up to 40mph, shrieking with laughter in a 20-minute rampage over pavements and lawns. They woke other students who were furious.
One said: “What a prat. He said he was out of his head and wanted to recreate the Italian Job. The car conked out and it’s in a right state. He made himself look an idiot. His parents had faces like thunder. Most people would love a car like that.”
The student spent a night in the cells. He was charged with drink-driving and released on Monday.
He has only been at the university a month and faces being kicked out
