MINI Price Drop?

Since I ordered my MINI almost a month ago the British pound has dropped from around $2.00 per pound to today's rate of $1.77. I think those of us awaiting the actual purchases of our cars deserve an 11.5% discount in price based on that devaluation.

It ain't gonna happen but I can dream can't I?

not with this current supply/demand curve. MINI is BMW's Golden Egg, the shrewdest automotive business decision in history when they unloaded Rover AG to Ford--but kept MINI. even if gas prices moderate MINIs will always be hot. That's why the plant is due for expansion, as is yearly production by 3-5K cars (and like 15 more dealers) here soon.

hmmm, what's that sound? I say, another Golden Egg just dropped into the feathered nest. Dream on, pal

I think MINI's response to that logic would be "we passed along the increase in dollar value by not increasing the price as much".

I loved reading an article some years ago that said Mini's "business model" was very shrewd, in that they minimized inventory by going to a "make to order" approach. Would've been GREAT if they'd have thought of it that way... but going "make to order" works only if the product is desirable enough that folks are willing to wait for their order to be made!

Can you imagine a Cobalt or Fusion in "make to order"?

The below is pretty much the truth... but also think about the price of oil (currently transacted in "dollars" worldwide). One reason the US oil pricing is so high is that the dollar is/was devalued! Have oil prices dropped because the hurricane missed the Gulf, or because of dollar valuation on global markets? Hmm? Don'tcha love economics?

Oil prices have dropped because it's the end of the summer driving season. Every year that I can remember gasoline goes up in May and drops in September.

Most of the cars I have bought have been ordered including American cars. I have always felt if you are buying new have it built exactly how you want it.
