Racing MINIs

I went to the Rolex Sports car races at New Jersey Motorsports park on Sunday. There were Mini's running in the Street touring class. They were doing pretty good good against some good competition.

Wow that video scaffold on 198's roof must have slowed it down a lot.

Every once in a while Speed actually shows a Koni Challenge races on TV. Watching the MINIs take on the higher displacement cars is a hoot.

So how was the NASCAR Sports Cars race?

I was referring to the Rolex DPs. Only NASCAR could come up with a butt-ugly sports car.

I think they are ugly, and they all look the same, just like NASCAR.

I'll watch ALMS/LMS cars any day of the week.

I was a Champcar official before the series went bust. I was fortunate to work last year's Houston race with the ALMS. They are nice as well.

Cool pictures. I would love to get press access at ALMS races for photography.

I saw one Champ Car race at Road America in 07. Sadly it was one of those follow the leader affairs and had little to no action (I think we observed one change of position given up by Legge). Of course, the 06 CCWS race at RA was more exciting (glad KL survived it intact).

I knew they planned to do something with it for breast cancer charity. Is it for that?

Alot of the pieces are being sold by individuals who happen to be at the race. There were ALOT of pieces from that wreck.

No doubt. I remember seeing that on TV. It was nasty.

At RA last month I saw Andy Pilgrim's Cadillac CTS-V turn into a fireball heading into T5. He turned it around and went straight in backwards into the tire wall. I was just a few seconds away from having my camera set for shots on the T5 corner (I was on the outside of the T5-T6 straight). I ended up with no shots of that. It was a lot more spectacular live than it appeared on TV.

At one point it was third place, but ended up 5th due to all the Yellowflags (got past at restarts)

I recorded this on my DVR. It didn't run. Once again Speed preempted a good racing program. They do this a lot. I just hate Speed Channel. They have turned to complete crap over the years. Sadly, they are the only game in town when it comes to ALMS, F1, etc.

It's supposed to air again. I think in the early morning on the 13th or so.

Sep. 13, 02:00-0400 CDT.

It's going to be preempted by the "Who wants to be an *** Wiper for Junior and Tony" reality show.

Maybe if I'm lucky they will show the race and I can see all the parts I missed. It's funny the Rolex and Koni series are supposed to be a good pro series. Owned by NASCAR, you think they would get good TV. The only blurb in AutoWeek was a couple of paragraphs in the racing news section. Not even a picture.

You're right RaceTripper, Pilgrim's Caddy looked like a meteor entering the earth's atmosphere from my vantage point. I too was on the outside of T5 and held my breath as the car came into T5 at full chat engulfed in flames. It was fortunate that Andy was able to haul it down and take the escape road without much incident and that the others around him were able to avoid the CTS for the most part, otherwise it would have been as David Hobbs so eloquently puts it... Le Grand Carambolage!
