This is just TOO freakin funny!
Neat quote - but my knee-jerk reaction was that I'd more think "Asian-built transportation appliance".
But... with Detroit's quality getting better, I'd actually be HAPPY to hear "Detroit-built transportation appliance". Like it or not, the auto industry IS a cornerstone of our economy - I'm not saying to buy an inferior product out of national pride, but... it's becoming less inferior. Referring to it as an "appliance" would be an upgrade, implying that it usually does what it's supposed to do when it's supposed to do it!
Design and concept are improving too, in fits and starts... witness some of the Chrysler offerings for style; love it or not, at least it's not generic!. Also, check the Malibu and Aura (yes, like Vanilla, only a good French vanilla), and now the Cobalt SS, with 250+hp(!), is coming in the 4-door version next year? Who knows, maybe someday US-built will catch up... I hope...
I just wish there was an interesting, stylish, fun car that was also a bit upscale - something to aspire to, from Detroit. The only ones I see so far are the Skye and the Solstice, but they completely lack any semblance of practicality.
Cimmaron, anyone?

/rant, back to your normally scheduled programme...

I was just saying that I thought that verbage/statement/quote was funny. As in calling every other car out there that is NOT a MINI an appliance.
Well, I thought it was funny anyways.
OK, carry on now, everyone!
