Got my plate today but the wierdest thing....

I got my plate in today....

But the wierdest thing I've seen. The plate is completely smooth. Normally how the metal is embossed, the letters are completely flush and smooth. It's almost like they're silkscreened on the plate.

Has anyone ever seen that before?

It's almost like a novelty plate.... wierd.

Anyway, got my plate... finally.

Mark

I know in Missouri they do vanity plates like that. Regular plates are stamped but the vanity ones look screened. I don't know why, I guess it's easier.

Blame the people of Delaware for starting the flat tags, they were the first to come out with the cheap looking plates.
South Carolina just switched to flat tags at the begining of the year and mine is flat also.
I don't like it as much as an embossed tag, I think it loses some of its special flare.

I guess the gov't wants to cut corners like everyone else. Now that you mention it, I remember Delaware plates were flat like that... always thought they looked like novelty plates.... you know the kind, the kind that you buy at the beach and have your name airbrushed on it...lol.

Yep we folks in Ohio started getting flat vanity tags a couple of years ago. Don't car for them, but there's nothing one can do about it.

I love your plate.

LOVE your plate, orangecrush!

Hmmm, but now I dunno if I want to get my custom plate if it's not embossed. I've seen the SC ones and it just looks...odd.

Nice.

Nebraska plates have been flat for about 5 years now or something. Interesting to note, when the back of cars are all covered with gravel road dust, you cannot read the plate at all. At least with a stamped plate there were shadows.

Expect all plates to go this route eventually. It's just cheaper to have a computer paint the tag than to have a machine emboss it.

Thankfully my amateur radio tag hasn't been switched yet.

Yeah, I figure.... it's just I hadn't seen any in NC yet like that. I thought I got a defective one...lol.

Cheap bastards....

Think I'm gonna airbrush some shadows around it to make it look raised.

The good folks at Folsom State Prison still make our embossed plates in CA, personal, specialty, and all.

Ya, like somebody already said: Ohio plates are now printed, not embossed. Easier to clean, that's for sure...

I think the OH plates style has changed, what, FIVE times in the past ten years? I had vanity plates on my truck when the OH plates were a dusty orange color, and those were embossed. When I changed vanity plates for the truck (and got new ones for the MINI & BMW) they were the "new" simplistic red, white & blue (which I like!) plates -- they had a weird RW&B centennial plate or something about three to five years ago I didn't like -- the new ones were printed. Eh. As long as they say what I want them to say....!!

Alaska's vanity plates are kind of hit and miss. Some are embossed, and some are silk screened. A friend of mine ordered plates the same time I did, same background style. His were silk screened (I'm jealous), and mine were embossed. The only difference that I could think of: I ordered mine online, and he went to the DMV and filled out a form.

Minnesota's vanity plates are flat too. Threw me off at first when mine arrived.

Great plate Orangecrush!

I feel sorry for you. I can see exactly what you mean. I mean, it look so fake on the back of the car! Ugh, what were they thinking? What happens if some fool decides to print a fake plate on reflective photo paper? I bet a cop would probably have some trouble on one or two plates seen with the unaided eye.
