Best way to load 2 kids into child safety seats?

I picked up a new (to me) 2006 Dark Silver, "Charlize," last week.

I'm going to a wedding reception today, and my 4 year old wants the whole family to take the Mini.

What's the best way to load my 1 year old into the rear facing Peg Perego infant carrier and base?

(1) Is it best to leave the carrier in the base and try to load him over the Recaro Toddler Seat?

Any other suggestions for the non-contortionist?

(2) Maybe it's best to strap him in the infant carrier first then work the carrier into the base?

(3) Other options (that include taking both kids)

With one kid I load her in from the boot with the left seat laid down. I slide her into the carseat on the right and buckle her in.
In your situation I'd load the infant over the top of the seat and into the carrier. Then load the 4yo into the seat from the drivers front.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm now expecting 1 new MC and my 4th child , so I've been wondering how to get at least two in as well.

Syco - whatever you do, watch your back - literally. Loading/unloading my little ones even into a tall SUV really did a number on my already iffy back. Once you wrench it, it's downhill from there! Good luck!

Yikes. Good advice kechman. I don't think we will be doing this on a regular basis, but I do want to know that it can be done. I will take care.

Thanks everyone for the tips!

It's an easy answer with the R52 -- You put the top down first.

Yup, this works great. I had to do this with a newborn and a 5 y/o. At about 6 months of age, he also automatically ducked his head in as he came out through the back.

PS My kids always want to go in the MINI also.

Thanks chpsk8 and Ferroequine, worked great, loading from the cargo area over the seat back. That's funny that your 6 month old automatically ducked.

He feel asleep on the way home, so I was able to lift him out in the carrier, and my back still feels fine (tonight).

At least 5 Mini's at the reception, including a 3 day old Clubman.
