Checkerboard cold feet!!!
Checkerboard cold feet!!!
I have my Cooper Flags checkerboard roof decal.
I have an appointment for install tomorrow at a local tint/audio shop.
But suddenly I'm all like this:
The black roof really looks good on my red Mini. But I'm $260 invested now in the roof decal so I need to get 'er dun.
I guess it's just the concept of doing something so permanent to your ride that has me nervous. I don't know how difficult it is to restore to black roof in the future with the cooper flags decals, but for whatever reason tomorrow has me going
.
Anyone else in checker land have last minute cold feet?

Yep, that happened to me, too. I had some serious doubts before I had mine installed. In fact, there's an old thread here somewhere that I started when I first started thinking about the checkered roof. I went back and forth, back and forth, for weeks and weeks.
Now... which looks better to you ???

Oh don't worry! I'm definately doing it. It's just sorta like getting married -- you have that instant of .... uh... what am I doing??? And then you do it and are happy.
Hmmm..... Mini Bee.... I see you have that Cig lighter dragon. I'm thinking of ordering one of those myself.

I would imagine that, since you are doing a full roof graphic, the black roof will be fine under the vinyl should you decide to change your mind some day. I think checkerboard looks great, but I suspect your MINI will draw even more attention than before. I'd be more concerned about that!!!

That's not a mat. Those are vinyl tiles from Race Deck. Each one is a square foot and they snap together. They come on lots of colors and you can make any design your imagination can come up with.
I'm also a little nervous about the install (hopefully it goes smoothly and looks great afterwards). The shop I'm having it done at has a good reputation, but they aren't an official 3M installer.... they are just a place with a good rep around here.
Anyway... I'm sure I'm just having jitters. I'll be fine.

That looks GREAT !!
And hey, I get to see what my CR Cooper would look like if it were an R56.
So, what do you think ? Still getting over the shock of the big change ? Took me weeks to get used to looking at my car with a checkered roof.

Ah... ok. GOOD ! I'm sure it doesn't look that bad in person then.
Still... if it were me, I'd go back and talk to that guy about those problems. It's tough to install a full roof graphic but that job leaves a lot to be desired.
Now, keep in mind, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and what I see as problems, most people would just shrug off. So if those things don't bother you, pay no attention to me.

And the space around the antenna does bother me but mainly because roof is exposed a little there and along the side in the other photo. Honestly the space around the antenna isn't very noticable unless you are looking for it.
