Horn

I searched the boards for this topic but didn't really find anything that addresses my specific questions...

What is the horn on the MCS like? Is it loud, wimpy, inaudible, or perfect??

My last car was a corolla and that horn sucked! You couldn't hear it at all. I know people say you should refrain from using the horn but here in the DC/MD area drivers are so obilvious that you need to occasionally alert someone that you are there. We recently got run off I-95 in the Corolla by one of those Chinatown buses, our horn did absolutely nothing.

If its too wimpy anyone do any after-market mods to increase the volume?

Thanks

The horn is more than reasonable, but NOTHING will short of canon fire will protect you from being run off the road by a much larger vehicle.

It's not a bad sound - I have no urge to change it. But you can always modify it. The one person (NAMer) to ask is "agranger" -- he also just posted some updates on an alternate thread. Search "horn" in NAM and you'll see LOTS of posts.

Good luck!

It's fairly loud. It definitely doesn't sound like a Japanese car's horn.

Horn....

ah the joy of drivving in the big city...I miss it not

The MINI has actually, two horns, so you get a decent 'toot'

and if you want yet more, you can find several examples here of folks who added small air horns. You can pick up either traditional air horns, or compact one piece units at Harbor Freight for very little. install can be done in under an hour....

the horn is much more impressive than my previous vehicle ('04 GMC 1500), I was slightly embarrassed to honk it.

The MINI's horns (yup, there's two) sound good and are quite loud, but somehow I don't think the sound suits the vehicle so well. I guess I was expecting a more German sounding horn (like most VWs).

The first time I honked my MCS's horns, I thought it sounded very similar to the ones in my Jeep Cherokee.

^Agreed, it's a "domestic" sounding horn. If I were to change it, I'd want it to have a more European/Italian horn sound...

My $.02 says it's a lot of horn for a small car. Granted, nothing will beat one of these retro'd to work:

But mine is loud enough in my mind.
