I guess I don't understand your thinking......you don't want to hassle with a very simple non-destructive solution but you want to disable the gong. This will req some kind of electrical mod that will be hard to track down and won't be stock.

Let me clarify... it will be stock in appearance. Sticking a cut-off seatbelt to get the end in there just seems mickey mouse to me (no offense to your dad's truck)

I want it to work the way I want it to but look completely stock. That's part of why I don't like the idea that lilaudio had to break his halves apart and glue them together.

Guess I'm wierd that way....

Not sure about yours but mine stays on for at least 5-7 minutes. It's not only annoying, it's LOUD!! (especially since I usually drive with the windows rolled down, sunroof open and the ac wide open, that means the volume on the radio is turned up which in turn, means the volume of the gonger is turned up)

Mine is an '08 R56, my buddy just bought a new Clubman and his dinger is much softer. (that just didn't come out right... )

Seriously, it's much quieter and softer with a much more feminine sound. (no offense bud...lol)

You can manually turn the volume of the gong down. Press the music note on your stereo controls, top left. CANNOT be done while the gong is going off.

But it is only the small metal male end that would be stuck in there.......no belt would be there.

Like the image below you would only have the metal end in the female part and it would be almost invisible.

Oh, trust me, I've got it turned down... (-5)

It's still annoying...

If I can't figure out how to remove the gonging electrically, then thats the route I'm going to have to take.

Not at all bud.... I'm just trying to do something different. If it works, great, if not.... well, guess I need to try something else and your post of the extra belt tab works perfect.

Thanks,

Mark

I pulled the chime in my Jeep Cherokee years ago to stop the gong. You may want to see if you can pull the gong out of the socket that it is inserted in. Not having looked at the source of the irritating noise, I don't know if this would work. I plan on disconnecting mine when my 08 S arrives in Aug. I always wear my seat belt, good habit.

Doesn't work that way..... it's built into the stereo, you don't simply unplug something....

I've never ever heard a Seatbelt 'gong' in mine. I will be happy to take the 'gong' off you mate.

Just curious if you ever found out how to disable the gong. I have a 40 lb puppy that likes to lay in the seat. The trouble is, that every time he shifts, the sensor re-sets and starts gonging all over again. So, while it may take only a minute or two to shut off, it restarts the process over and over.

I know my experience doesnt involve a Mini but this worked on my '05 Civic.
I was having the same problem with the seat belt ding driving me mad so i said screw it. I had the guy that did the work on my car since i didnt have the time fix it.

From what I understand from his explanation he removed the bolts from the seat, rolled the seat back, and soldered the wires that tell if something has been inserted into the buckle. It just told the computer if there was continuity from one wire to another. It smelled like solder for a while but the ding was gone and I never got any sort of error message on the computer. Granted I was never in an accident to see if both airbags worked but I never had any more problems with it.

Only took the guy 30 minutes. This probably wasnt legal but I really wasnt too worried about it. I doubt Mini has any sort of extravagent system to tell if the buckle is in so it should work as well.

Oh and I traded that back to the dealer a year ago so I dont know what has happened in the last time.

On my Toyota FJ cruiser there is a quirky sequence you can do with ignition key and door handles which will disable the seatbelt alarm. I am of the same opinion as the OP. I'll wear my seatbelt when I want to, not when the car wants me to. My SOP is to get in my car, back it out and as I go from reverse to forward, put the seatbelt on. I don't want to either change my habit or be persistently annoyed by a chime "reminding" me to put my belt on.

I have a Clubman on order and I genuinely hope I can disable any seatbelt alarm in that car too; preferably without having to resort to any sort of mechanical solution like bypassing a sensor or buying a seat belt buckle end.

My husband has a Ford F-150 and wanted his seat belt dinger to quit dinging, so he found the answer in his car manual. He had to put the keys in the ignition, turn the key a little, then do a series of buckle/unbuckle with the seat belt to make it quit. And it worked like a charm.

I wonder if MINI/BMW has anything similar that would work?

No, I never found an answer simply because I haven't had time. I need to check out the wiring schematic and see if I can close the loop on the weight sensor.

It's ridiculous, I've got two 11 lb. wiener dogs and depending on how they lay, the seatbelt gonging goes off... they move and it stops but God forbid they stay still.... they'll move a minute later and here we go again....

I picked up a CD, I'll try to check it out this weekend.
