The reason Dale Earnhardt Jr. sold his MINI
Not a snob, just not defining things on the same level I am. And of course to me I'm right. The fact that both drag racing and NASCAR are a way for vehicles to compete against each other, and that they take a high level of vehicle preparation and development of skill, makes them a very competitive form of motorsports. Really, when F1 allowed traction and stability control and drivers were able to go full throttle through some corners while letting the computers figure out the braking and power to put down, that wasn't racing. Thankfully those days are over.
And for the record, I'm really bad at drag-racing and have very little discipline modulating the clutch and throttle, or even controlling my nerves when sitting at the line, I have the 3 second 60 foot time to prove it takes skill, loosing to what should have been an easy win.

hmm you bring up a good point. If computers were the way these race cars stayed on track i wouldn't be a fan of them at all. I truthfully don't like formula one for that reason. The technology in a formula one car is so outside the realm of every-day practicality that it's really not to my advantage to be interested in it. I am interested in le mans and endurance racing, though. It's similar to nascar and drag racing in the technology involved, but there's the added dimension of difficulty with taking corners while still avoiding other cars and running the engine and gearbox as gently as possible to make sure it lasts the several hours of the race.
That's where it's at!

I'm sure Jr. has a cadre of stupid, ignorant rednecks to go to Wal-Mart for him.

What is a "real" drivers car? Define "real" racing. Do lawnmowers count? Snowmobiles? Motocross? Superbikes? Pine wood derby? Baja 1000? World Rally? Have you ever seen the Nascar shops? Anyone have a clue as to how many millions go into R&D annually? Any idea how many engineers with masters degrees work at the team shops? How hard do the Vette, Viper, Porsche, Lambo. & Ferrari guys laugh at us? And don't give me the "their not laughing when I pass them at the track", there are bad Mini drivers at HPDE's too. The price tag argument doesn't hold water either, they obviously have the money to own one of those. Don't you think I would have a 911 if I could afford one? Absolutely, it would blow the doors off the Mini. I love the Mini, probably the best bang for the buck that you can buy right now, but it's not the only game in town.

I don't have that problem with my MINI. I look goofy in what ever I drive.
" 'Corners like a dream' One of the best-handling cars he's owned was a 2002 Mini Cooper, but Earnhardt said he didn't have that car long.
"They're so much fun to drive, but you just look goofy in them. I had one for a year and I sold it because I just couldn't bear to bring myself to drive it into town and let people see me in it.
"I've got this big monster-looking truck with big tires on it and I've got this Corvette and I'm going to drive into town in a Mini Cooper? I eventually sold it just so I wouldn't have to wrestle with it (any) more.""

customized 270-horsepower Mini Cooper is officially on the block. Mini tuning house Mini Mania is responsible for the barrage of modifications to the car, which include upgrades to the computer, suspension, exhaust and more.

Watching NASCRAP is like flushing a bag of Skittles down the toilet, and seeing which color goes down first.
ANYTHING can be made expensive. That doesn't equal good, or even legitimate in my book.

Like I care what a redneck with no driving talent thinks. I'm sure his Mustang/ Camero drinking buddies beat him up a few times about it and he sold it so they would like him more. Judging by his other taste in cars, he has no automotive classe anyway!
Before I bought my Mini I drove a 4 wheel drive Chevy Avalanche. When people give me a hard time I just tell them that since I started using male enhancement drugs I no longer felt the need to drive the Avalanche any more!
I hear a lot of crap too. My daily driver is a lifted supercharged H2. I just sold a supercharged, convertible C5. A few months ago I sold a supercharged, V8'd Miata and the truck that sits in my garage is a blown, tubbed, big block S10.
Out of my two bodyshops, one of them does restorations. I recently did a '69 Camaro for one of the owners of a dealership for Hendricks. He RAGGED on me when I said I was buying a mini. He asked me if I was going to get divorced from my wife and marry a man... I mean he REALLY rags on me everytime he sees me.
And to make matters worse, the Mini is Hot Orange... not exactly the most manly color I could have bought.
Ya know what though, I DON'T CARE. I've been driving my Mini for a week and LOVE it. The car and people are great and I'm driving it for me.... even my wife gets on me, (she wants me to buy another Corvette)
I LOVE MINIS. Screw Dale.

Now thats funny right there.
For anyone concerned about MINI owners being snobbish.....this is a MINI-enthusiast web-site, we are MINI-enthusiasts, and we routinely talk anything MINI-related to death. I highly doubt if anybody here really cares what Jr drives (nor do we really care if anybody drives an SUV). Don't worry too much.
Some of you need to get a grip...
living on the edge of what can be done by ANY set of rules takes
1) persistance
2) money
3) skill
Don't like NASCAR? so what..... Doesn't mean you have to craap on it. Those guys can drive, plain and simple.....
Takes all types....

....round in circles!!!!
It's not really my cup of tea either
but if F1 "trades paint" they all end up broken, and there are two NASCAR road courses.
But whether it's "around in circles" or a spurt down the 1/4 mile or motox or F1 or circle track... When there's someone else trying to use the same rules to win just as hard as you do, it ends up being quite the competition. You don't have to like it, or watch it, but to pretend that it's not a real fight to win is just stupid. To say that there is no skill involved in doing the best out there is just stupid. To say that it's not racing is just stupid.

Well it is clear he liked the car...
1. He bought it, so he must have thought it was cool
2. Than he gave it 270 HP
3. Than he said its the best handling car he ever drove.
So now he hates on it because it makes him look goofy and afraid of what people will say?
Its clear people got to him and what they thought was more important than all the qualities he found in the mini cooper.
Amazing the power of peer pressure.
