Thanks lady, now my MCS needs a nosejob!

Got backed into by a Honda Pilot while I was stopped at a light this evening. I wasn't stopped that close to her, and even honked my horn, but it didn't do any good. Yes, she was talking on the phone...

Damage isn't terrible, but the hood is dented in a few places, the grille is cracked and the bumper cover will need to be replaced. It looks like the bumper cover is pushed down (look at the left side of the first pic), but hopefully it's just cosmetic and not the actual bumper that's bent.

Think it's okay to replace my grille and bumper cover with aero kit pieces?

Here you can see the dents near the Mini emblem and a bigger one just above where the grille surround curves down (hard to see with PW), plus the scrapes on the top of the bumper from where her bumper pushed it down.

that's some serious damage for being at a stop light...can't be just a 1MPH rollback.

What part of town were you in?

Hope she doesn't lie and tell her insurance company you struck her in the rear. Without a witness, it would be word vs word and very hard to prove which story was right.

Good luck with your insurance claim and the repair work. Yep, looks like a good opportunity to upgrade to the aero bumper.

Oh, she didn't roll back into me, she put her car in reverse and backed into me!

This was at the stoplight waiting to turn left onto Washington from Hancock street, just off of I-5 South. She pulled out from near the Fed Ex office or something as I was coming down the ramp. She stopped at the light, and I pulled up behind her. There was nobody else around so I assume she never looked back before reversing, without realizing I had shown up in the meantime. In addition to her phone she had her navigation going. She must have wanted to change to a different lane - the thing is there was nobody around and she could have gone in any direction once the light turned green anyway.

Thanks for scaring me...She didn't really speak English, so hopefully that will prevent any lying. Worst case is my deductible is $500, which isn't a bad price for a new nose.

Ya, I figured she'd have had to be in gear and accelerating to do that much damage...or on one of the hills down by the airport.

Sorry this happened.

Good luck with the nose job!

Are you taking it up to Brecht's body shop, or using another shop?

People in their Big SUV and talking on the cell phone drive me crazy. Don't forget to get her insurance company to pay you a lost value on the MINI after it is repaired. Any car that is wrecked is worth less after it is fix than before it was wrecked.

people say suv's are safer..yet from all stories i hear..car accidents occur BECAUSE of the suv's..
sorry to hear about your damage tho. hopefully everythings works out for the best for you and hey..great time to get the aerokit as a replacement. along with adding more money to it. but either way. it's still way cheaper because of your deductible

+1

I had a very similar thing happen to me, and to top it off the vehicle was a Jeep Commander with a driver who may or may not been on the phone. I was lucky however, because the way she hit me there was no way she could claim I rear-ended her (unless I was pulling a righteous power slide while making a left, facing the right)

the fact that english isn't her first language will make it even more certain that you'll have a good case against her.

I had $3500 worth of "wind damage" to my Mini. Luckily my deductible is $100. You have bad drivers we have sand trucks! (And bad drivers) good luck!

Why? are you implying she is an illegal immigrant or because of her ethnicity?

Oh wait, if she is white, blue eyes and doesn't speak english, then it is ok. But if she looks hispanic, then she is automatically suspect?

Wow, welcome to **** Germany, Kalifornia style!

I'm going to take it to Brecht because I figure that will be the easiest way to get the aero bumper.

Did you get a police report? Was the police even present to issue a citation?

If the cops were not present, I think it is going to be hard to establish responsability...

I am offended by this comment. If she is guilty, she is guilty. The fact that English is not her primary language should not be an issue. So I suppose, all things being equal, we should have a speech off. The winner is the one that uses the most gerunds , dangles their participle the least , and understands that the plural form of goose is geese, but for moose it is moose ...regardless of guilt or innocence of course. And yes, English is my second language.

Very distateful...and way off the track of the original post.

Sorry but that post was truly uncalled for

Because an individual doesn't speak or commands the English language does not make him/her an automatic suspect or a target.

It is very sad that in the midst of the 21st century some individuals still cling to such poor notions.

Let's not forget that this nation was founded by immigrants. Even "natives" have immigrant ancestry one way or the other.

My apologies for the thread hijack. But this kind of thinking really has no place here or anywhere else.

I did not go off track. I was responding to steaming79's comment about the English challenged SUV offender. At the least, I was still in the ballpark. Although I agree with ClubmanS's passion, I do not agree with his use of ethnicity and history. If you would, what was distasteful about my post? PM me if you like.

Ditto, and this will be my last post, unless relative to the original subject, regarding this issue.

If you would, please share cost of repair/replacement. This is one of my biggest concerns, an SUV backing into my MINI. I thought about buying/designing bull bars to help ward off people from "bump" parallel parking into me. One reason I have not pulled the trigger is that I soon realized that the height of most SUV bumpers is such that it would clear the MINI bumper line and hit the bonnet and grille instead.

Would you say that this is the case with you? It looks like most of the damage was above the bumper line, although the bumper is out of whack. Are your signal lights damaged? Or are the lenses just cracked from the impact.

Thanks.

For those bickering earlier in the thread:

Let's keep the inappropriate racial comments and anything else that is offensive or political, and therefore completely irrelevant to NAM, out of the discussion.

Sorry about the incident. Hope you get your MINI repaired in a thorough and timely manner.
