Cabin Filter?

Does anyone have an image of where the cabin filter is? I purchased a Hayes repair manual and I did not see any mention on the cabin filter.

How often does this need to be replaced?

Thanks

it is located under your glove box. Squeeze your self on the passenger floor and you will the cover. As per being replaced. Maybe once a year? maybe 2? I would think sorta like your house filter...do it at the same time...

Mine was so nasty--I found moths and all kinds of debris and insects--after 60,000 miles. Yuck. Super easy to replace.

Would I be able to purchase a filter at any car parts store, or is this a part that needs to be obtained from a BMW/Mini dealership?

Can't wait to see what mine looks like!

I just uploaded pix of mine. I bought mine from Outmotoring.com but you can get it from the dealer and probably even NAPA, though I don't know for certain.

Right is the dirty filter in case you were wondering, lol.

Guess my memory wasn't that sharp--that's a butterfly, not a moth!

i ended up getting mine at a local import autoparts store (http://www.bapimportparts.com/). I called the national chain stores, they didnt carry (not suprised). I think there are two types available, a traditional paper and a microfiber type also

PelicaParts is usually the cheapest and has free shipping and most likely no tax for most people...

I'd replace it annually. Whoever said they replace it when they replace their house filter might want to change that house filter a little more often. We change ours every three months. Any more and it's pretty much clogged.

Replacing the filter is easy...once you get the housing off.

Each of the long sides of the cover (closer to the floor) has tabs that fit over the sides of the top (closer to the windshield) of the housing. You will need to use a hook-like tool to reach over the top of the side of the cover then "stretch" the cover outward for the tabs to clear the top of the housing.

Once you've gotten the cover off, you just slide the old filter out and the new one in. The cover then snaps into place again.

I've rewritten this three times and can't word it any better. Hope it helps anyway!

This is very helpful. I was able to locate a filter from the local parts supplier.
Weather is expected to be descent this weekend. I'll inform you as to how it went. Thanks again for all the information and support.

I would highly recommend spending the bucks, and getting the Bentley Press Mini Workshop manual. It's tremendous.

I also found the tabs towards the engine difficult to unlatch. I bent a piece of 1/32 thick by 3/8 wide metal into a tight U-bend at the end and it made it real easy to unlatch.

Well I finally did it! I was able to obtain a filter from the local parts store and was I blown away at how dirty it was. The fins were caked and I mean caked with ~ 1/8" of crap. So glad I changed it. It was very easy with the instructions provided. No issues with removing the housing cover or filter.

Thanks again for all your help!
