The BEST road to drive.
Heres a few of my favorites in no particular order
1. Route 11 in Maine to Ft. Kent: Google Map Link
2. VT Route 9 from Bennington to Brattelboro: Google Map Link
2B. Also in VT and Maine: Rt. 2 From Bangor to Montpelier (allow lots of time)
3. US 160, Cortez to Walsenburg, CO: Google Map Link
4. Arkansas 7 From I-40 to I-30: Google Map Link
5. Nebraska 21 From Lexington to Broken Bow: Google Map Link Also in Nebraska, NE 2 from Grand Island to Crawford, and US 20 from Ainsworth to Wyoming are also great for scenery, but not many twisties.
6. Almost any road in the Blackhills (except for Sturgis Week): Google Map Link. Any Road that has this turn on it has to be fun: Google map link to Hwy 87

Any PA Roads?
I'm gonna be in PA (Philly) and want to know...where are the sick ROADS?
Twisting, Winding, Blind, No Cell Phone Reception, Off-Camber, Hairpins, 15mph Limit, Altidude Adjusting, Vomit inducing, Vertigo inducing with just a few Sweepers (prefer Hairpins) with NO TRAFFIC and lead to pretty much nowhere kinda roads
All I have gathered so far is "off the 78"

I like the way you think
My favorite section is 89A (Alternate) from Prescott Valley to Jerome.

This best part is it's only a half hour away!
BTW: 89 south of Prescott is a very close second.

I've done group runs up there with NEMINI a few times. Lots of hairpins.
WEST
I ain't driven them all
but I've done the Dragon, New England, the Blue Ridge
and parts of the west coast ....
East Coaster's ..... you can't compare..... I'd pick up the coast just as I left the Golden Gate bridge heading north and skim the coast up to wine country.
If it gets better than this I ain't experienced it.......

OK, extremely short, but always fun, Lombard St in SF. I mean come on super crazy twisty road right in the middle of the city. They even race big wheels down this road annually. Or at least they used to. The last one had so many spectators that it pretty much trashed all the gardens.
PA Roads?
Any other roads that meet the criteria in PA? Anyone?
Howsoon
Drive back up to OC NY and go on another one of our runs
Just think of that GP hitting them roads.
It is only 3 hrs lol
Jerseygirl
Hope to be on your next NEMINI run. Cant wait for spring to get here.

I was thinking about heading up there some weekend. You there was a car there in Montgomery that I would like to get and have GP as "Nice Climate" ride. I seen it right in town the day we went on ride, and I've seen it there parked in same place all the time. It is the Citroen DS, the owner must live in those Apts. near downtown. If ya'll ever run across him ask him or her how much they'll sell for.
I drove from Laguna Seca raceway to Placerville CA to see a friend of mine. On her suggestion I cut across over to Hwy 49 before heading north. It's the only time I've ever felt nauseous while driving. There are a few turns marked 5 mph and a few I had to take at 5 mph just because of all the gravel other drivers had kicked onto the road way while going considerably wide. Very nice scenery on one side and rock face on the other. The only other vehicle I saw was an RV and I'm pretty sure the RV got stuck somewhere on that road because the thing was too wide for a few turns.
I was driving a Mitsu Eclipse AWD Turbo at the time. It was tremendous fun.
Here is a link to the section that got me sick. I remember the road doing this for miles and miles but looking at the map this may be the only stretch of good twisties and the rest was made up in my spinning brain.

If you zoom in it will be obvious the part that got me sick.
cheers

Years ago, when I lived in West Virginia, my favorite road was Rt 50 between Grafton West Virginia and Red House Maryland. It's a two lane raod with a hair pin curve and horse shoe curve on one mountain and then Cheat Mountain had a lot of twists and turns. Cool Springs was always a neat place to stop and eat lunch while checking out all the old tractors and cabooses.
There used to be a resturant in an old log house at Red House that we would stop and eat at sometimes. Anyone know if it is still there?

Any time I get out to Sacramento, make it a point to drive the 49, unless its winter.

Wow, what great bunch of California roads, and we're are not even scratching the surface yet - besides the Ortega (Max mentioned), there are many more canyons of Orange County and tons of good roads in Northern SD county too (Palomar, Escondido, Fallbrook, etc).
A really short but fun one is Grimes Canyon the road between Moorpark and Filmore. But one of the greats is Highway 178 between Bakersfield and Lake Isabella. The canyon section runs along side the Kern River (one of the most dangerous rivers in the US).

Some of my Favorites:
VERMONT
RT 108 From Stowe Vermont Smuglers notch is fun for a short blast but the further north you go the less populated it becomes.
RT 100 South From Stowe Vermont almost to he MA border. Very Scenic, a few chalenging sports but just a nice drive. Just watch out for the Mooses
)
NEW YORK
Any drive through Manhattan early in the morning with little traffic. Just start in the bronx, work your way south zig zagging through the city. Make sure you cut through central park at some point. Hit the West side Drive, and the FDR for a littl more speed.
Early morning run from Staten Island Across the Verrazano Bridge to Suffolk County Via the belt Parkway and the Southern State Parkway. Less traffic and just plain fun when driven at a decent speed.
HAWAII
Route 200 From Hilo to Rte 190 South to Kaliua Kona. It was a blast when I was there 9 years ago. No cars, except for cutting across the military base. Yeah i wasn't supposed to drive that rental car on that road, oh well.
I have driven a few in PA, NJ, Upstate NY, CT, MA, and KY, and OH. but those really stick out at the moment.

A personal favorite of mine is the road from Princeville to Waimea. Wonderful route on the Garden Isle (Kauai). Very scenic, a few challenging paths. Freaking crowded around Lihu'e and Kapa'a, though

RE: Hill Country
You know while working in Houston I bought the Houston Metro Thomas Map Guide and found nothing, althought I bought a Texas map and found a route (Corvette Club mentioned) that goes from Fredricksburg to San Antonio through Texas' Hill Country. I did not have the MINI but had a Pontiac GTP. Unfortunatly I got a speeding ticket on first leg, the cops there wait for you at the bottom of hills. It was OK more sweepers not really hairpins and lots of tourists (eating spots, vineyards, quaint towns) meaning SLOW TRAFFIC. I think your near Htown I'd do trip at MIDNIGHT, less cops and no traffic
Yeah, that's the problem--all kinds of stuff in Hill Country; not so much toward Houston. I've worked out several rally routes using Roads of Texas, Google maps, and some motorcycle maps, but it's hard to find fun stuff. If I go to Hill Country I've got to board dogs and birds, and it's such a hassle...

This is one of my favorite drives..... it is GA 60 from Suches GA to Mineral Springs GA...... think straightening out the Dragon. This drive is full of beautiful farms in a N GA mountain setting.
I have driven the Pacific Coast Hwy several times and it is really amazing if you have never seen it . I have driven north out of SF into the wine country all beautiful..... but, the east coast has its own serene beauty..... the mountains are much older (and wiser) and have a peace to them where as I find the mountains out west are full of drama.... thank God for diversity

But it's not the same as a leisurely or spiritedly drive for a few hours.
There was one other road I can't remember the name, but there is a outlet mall on its more populated side, then it is empty just farms, but it seems some of the sharp curves actually go around perimetters of farms, I put the GTP in limp mode there.
I'll check the map I highlighted different routes on.
