That is great. Let them drive into the disaster area and hopefully the Hummer won't make it out. When the drivers are rescued by the National Guard they will slap them in the face and say, "what were you thinking? That is not a humvee, it is a hummer H2."
Humvees are far from fantastic as well. My poor hubby has had plenty of experience with their incredible ability to become hopelessly mired in muck as they are quite heavy.
He drove them plenty. And when the guy you are driving around gives you the order to "go through there" you do it, you don't insult him by telling him he's crazy and this thing won't make it. You just drive and then you get out and you shovel.

H1's yes, H2's not even close... I would dare to argue the r56's appear to have more ground clearance, specially when you look at the back end

I don't get the attitude here... these people volunteer and put themselves at risk (and their expensive vehicles) to help transport rescue personnel into disaster areas, and that is somehow a bad thing
I'd be quite grateful if some stranger made that much personal effort to help me.

FWIW, I have a H2 since 2003 and I don't know of any other SUV that will replace it yet. I use it daily for work and to get me in and out of tight situations. I'm a Property Development & Projects Manager, so we go to places that no other car have been there before... My H2 gets me there smoothly , comfortably and with style.
this thing is like sand surfing
and I also use it to tow our boat and been through deep mud a few times and thought I would get stuck for sure, but never happened
. I also compared it to a H1 (in action in the desert) and I would take an H2 over an H1 any time of the day
Look at it this way... I got the best of two worlds... well three if you count my Harley

i think it's great and admirable anytime people volunteer their time and resources to help other people. but i hope they're at least somewhat trained for these rescues and any projects or missions they go on are to supplant and accompanied by the trained professional rescuers. otherwise this *commercial* looks a bit like shameless self-promotion
i'll leave out my opinion on these trucks

Many of the same arguments against SUVs could be used to assert that no one should be driving a car with a supercharger or a turbocharger when a naturally aspirated version would get them down the road just fine ...

Ok, so, I'm going to **** some folks off with this, but so be it.
Hummers are garbage. End of story. All of them. Even the H1. Under engineered American junk.
Notice, that the only person in the WORLD who thinks that a Hummer of any ilk is worth anything probably got the t-shirt from Wal-Mart. It is well documented all over the internet how poor the workmanship on these vehicles really is. It's a Chevy Suburban with a body kit. It's not a capable off road machine. That commercial is so fake. "We needed a tax shelter, so we started H.O.P.E."
If you have the need for a serious 4x4, the need to seriously enter some conditions like those pictured in the video - buy a Land Rover, and leave it stock. Problem solved.
And you won't snap control arms going over curbs, either.

Hey man im not showing any hate. If someone wants to buy a completly un practical car for the times that we live in then be my guest
. As for power my friend, Power is nothing without control
Funsie
The MINI community is really comprised of two very diffrent people...People who bought the car for what it is.....and people who bought the car for what it is marketed as!.....I have little respect for the latter and they make up the SUV hating crowd around here. The rest of us are not so arogant to see that what we drive is not out of need but desire, that virtually all cars on the market are excessive and thats the point!!!!....Who the hell wants to live in the world where someone else tells you what you need and what you should want and what you should drive.
+1 exactly

I think that the "hate" is directed at those Hummer owners that "bought the car for what it is marketed as". If the Hummer lived up to the hype, it would at least be bearable. But as it stands - these idiots are lining up to buy an underpowered, totally UNCAPABLE "4x4".
Just because you have a transfer case, doesn't mean it's expedition time. That is why these vehicles are loathed. There is nothing about them to like. It's a poseur product for a wannabe generation.
I don't appreciate you calling me and (labeling) Hummer buyers as idiots and I don't know why you are so pissed off about it
. There are many cars out there that are poorly built with many problems and the MINI is not a perfect example to compare to a Hummer (my S is always thirsty). I don't see any fires coming out of the hood or hoods being really hot on those hummers. I drove mine for 4 years now and it's still perfect... if you think you can go rock crawling and not get damage then you are wrong... and if you are concerned about the environment, then you shouldn't have bought a MINI in the first place... a motorcycle will do you just fine to get from A2B...
it amazes me how the MINI people are so friendly and yet so hateful at the same time
you don't see this very much out there... you either don't have the cash to get it or anything in that range (which is totally understandable) or really environmental friendly person (which makes you a hypocrite)...either way, you should keep you hostile opinion for your self and not label us SUV owners as IDIOTS... FWIW, I own 4 cars that have nothing to do with each other... I just love cars and the same reason that made me get a Hummer also made me get a MINI, a Porsche 911 and a pick up and if I would think like you... then why get the Land rover, if you want to be unique, why get the Zonda.. (very stupid car with no reason to be built!!!
) why get anything... you'll be an IDIOT to get it because there will always be something better out there in some other guys opinion.. enjoy your MINI dude and keep a positive attitude... this is an industry with lots of variations and I'm sure there is alot more H1,H2 and H3 doing what they were built to do than those LandRovers (unless you are in Europe)

Have you ever owned a land rover.... I have... hardly a trouble free quality product.... nice looking and capable when its running but talk about problems.... by the way its owned by Ford....
The Mini is not exactly well built..... it did not even make the latest top 100 cars..... it is fun and has a style..... the Hummer is not my favorite vehicle but to tout the Land Rover as the bastion and hallmark of quality..... questionable to say the least.....
'government is established to protect us from each other..... not to protect us from ourselves'
Firstly, let me apologize for the idiot comment. It wasn't appropriate, or well written, so my intention was miscommunicated. Let me clarify.
Before I begin, I'd like to mention that I too own what is considered to be a "luxury SUV", and traded another in on my new MINI. I'm not really a "green" person - which isn't something I'm proud of. But I don't hate Hummers for the environment, although honestly, they aren't helping.
Here is the thing. You're a Joe Shmoe. You drive a MINI for cryin' out loud.
Further, you mentioned earlier that you use your H2 to get to job sites, etc.. So, you're one of the few exceptions. You actually have some legitimate reasons to own an SUV. I don't hate you, and I don't think you're an idiot.
Usually, you see folks that drive SAV's or SUV's that are intended for these "suburban duty" lifestyles. Hauling kids, groceries, and the odd 2x4 now and again. They are usually pretty well styled, well appointed, unassuming, everyday vehicles that do what they are intended. There are no connotations of adventure, or greatness. Nobody is trying to sell you a lifestyle. It's a truck. With lots of cupholders. It's ok on gas, and your neighbor has one. You'll take it. This is perfectly fine. It's not for me, but I'm a car person. I don't hate these people.
Then, there are the "other" SUV's. The SUV's. The Land Rovers, the Jeeps, and the FJ's. The trucks that are taken to the ends of the earth and back through hell and high water without so much as a whimper. Vehicles that possess a heritage and pride worthy of their moniker. Marketing BS aside, these are the vehicles that went where nothing else could or would and lived to tell about it. The AM General HUMV is not one of these vehicles. Although it can stand on it's own in some regard, it's an infant compared to these legends.
Fast forward a few years, and The Hummer is the star of the Gulf War. Arnold makes it popular on the red carpet. You want one, but you can't afford the almost 6 figure price tag. Someone realizes this, and sees an opportunity. So, they take advantage. I don't hate this person either.
So, then, GM gives AM General a 2500 Series Chevy Truck frame, and a 1500 Series frame, and they hack them together to make this behemoth - the H2. Why is it so big? Does it seat 12? Will it haul a fridge? No! We have to make it heavy. As heavy as we can. No reason, really. Just big, and heavy. 6700lbs worth of heavy.
Then, to pull all that heavy, we need a ton of torque. So, we'll chuck a huge V8 at it, and call it a day. Then, to support all of this heavy, we'll throw a heavy-duty towing suspension under it. That should do it.
So, now we've got this giant rolling boulder. For what? Nothing, that's what. Just a plain old A-B. A little off the beaten path, and very unique. But A-B. But that wasn't enough. GM decided that it's "Like nothing on earth". It'll take you to the ends of the planet, and make you the new Ponce DeLeon! It has the "pedigree" and shares the name with Arnold's bad-***-mobile. It says "Where I'm going, there's adventure!". But then, you take it down a rough road, and break a tie rod. Or you take the wrong trail, and sink into the mud because your weight is rediculously disproportionate to the surface area of your tires. It really is like "Nothing on earth".
So, what you end up with is a soccer mom taxi that has no history or laurels upon which to rest, that weighs 6700lbs, gets 3mpg, seats 6, and doesn't really hold more cargo than a Toyota Highlander - for 30K more.
But it is unique. If I had my way, I'd never see another PW MCS, so I can appreciate that. It's good to be your own man. Until 80,000,000,000 other people buy one.
And then - there are the people that own them. Here in Chicago, they fall into two groups:
Douchebag: You've seem him. He's spent way too much time in the tanning bed, has his pink polo collar popped, and his tips frosted. He bought it because his girlfriend likes his best friends Jeep, and he wanted to be sure that she knew who has the bigger...SUV.
The budding Hip-Hop Star: Bling-bling fo shizzle. Nothin' says ya album 'bouta drop betta than dubs on da H2, ya feel me kid?
It's just the whole package. From start to finish. I loathe it. If I could erase anything from automotive history - it would be the Hummer. Not the Edsel, not the Pontiac Aztek - the Hummer. And I think a lot of folks here share this sentiment.
Mini's are the antihummer

They are owned by Ford. Ford has zero influence to design, and actually uses Rover designs in their cars.

do some of you people also hate any car that is more powerful than what you have deemed is acceptable?
