I have noticed, since I have owned my Mini, I seem to be more picky about the quality of things I buy, services provided, is it because I am getting older, or, could it be because I comepare everything to my Mini... I mean it's such a solid car, not much to complain about, well, except for the little surprise I found when I disconnected my battery the other day, then proceded to close the hatch! Opps! You can't open the hatch at all with out the battery connected!

I take what I can get. I'm not picky about anything really. There are times I would pay more for some service just to avoid conflict. Does that make me a pushover? Just easy going I'd say...you know, non confrontational.

I'm not finding that the MINI has done this to me solely.
Oh, I closed the boot with the battery disconnected too. There's an emergency release cable under the rear seat. BUT NOT on my car! 09/02 build. So I hooked up a battery charger to the positive terminal under the bonnet and chassis/ground and then I was able to open the boot.

More picky? Perhaps about where I park. I always parked way out there with my pickup, with the MINI I am more selective.

Ah this is true. I get up way early to get that particular spot.

I find the older I get, the more I go for quality. It also helps that I can now afford it!

More picky ? no. More refined about what you pick about ? maybe
. I was always pretty picky about quality of what I purchase, and these days at 25k and up the reason to be picky is justified
. As far as keeping them clean and un harmed. If you have the affliction I have, Clean, Clean, Clean
.
Is it crazy? yes. But thats me

The only thing I've been more picky off is the gas stations where I go. Didn't matter where I went before since all I needed was just regular, and my cars were just econobox commuters. Now, it must be Shell premium all the time. Use to worry about the cost of gas. Now, all thats in my mind is the quality of it.

Yes, I think I am more picky, but I wouldn't call it that. "More discerning" or "more aware" of added value perhaps.

I don't know about "picky", but I do know a lot of people that have been bitten by the "detailing bug" after buying a MINI, even though they'd owned many other cars in the past, including some that were more expensive.

And I park carefully as well....no where near a cart corral.

I think it takes a certain type of person to buy a MINI. There are so many cars on the market in all price ranges, some better than others. For many of us the MINI is the ideal fun/commuter/solo driver car. And the MINI handles the twisties better than just about anything else, unless you get into some serious coin.
Yes, we do park a distance away. No, that's not MINI-related picky. I do that with my other cars too. Ditto gas purchases, detailling, etc.
And Hubby washes his car (a 5-series) as much as he does the MINI, even though his now spends a whole lot of time under blankets in the garage. The MINI gets all the driving because it's so much fun!

Hey, thanks for the tip, I just looked under my rear seat, and sure enough, there was that release lever! Now that I know it's there, I will probably never need it :>

Speaking of clean... there is a local car wash, where you can get your car washed everyday of the month if you want, for $29 a month

+1 on pickiness in fuel station selection...it's a big variable in my neck of the woods.Originally Posted by darmog

I just think MINI ownership allows my OCD the opportunity to surface on a more regular basis, manifested in the frequent detailings, obsession with "safe" parking spots**, long hours of NAM lurking, etc. Being bitten by the mod bug has not helped this.
(**After parking on the vacant side of the lot, to this day I STILL turn around to look at my MINI from a distance and can't wipe the S-eating grin off my face
