Does owning a MINI make you more picky?
Interesting question. I'm not very picky in general, but I do like to enjoy what I do if at all possible (why be miserable?). I got a MINI primarily because I like Minis and wanted to enjoy motoring like I did back in the day w/ the Sprite and Spitfire. As nice as a MINI is, I still don't think of it in that regard (high quality)....it's all about motoring enjoyment for me!!

No to general pickiness, but I note that many on this thread have mentioned pickiness about parking spaces with which I am seriously afflicted. I never cared with other cars even when new. Also I always notice minis parked way out in no mans land in many parking lots. You don't see this even with far more expensive cars.
I like to purchase quality items and then take care of them. Then I can use my extra money (when available) to purchase new stuff instead of replacing things I didn't take care of.
My co-workers think I'm picky and OCD but I just think I have a good plan.

AKIndiMini,
I had a 1995 Landrover Discovery. Holy crap what a night-mare that was!
My father in law just bought a Range Rover, and when he showed it to me, we recalled my Landrover and within 24 hours he had his Range Rover listed for sale!
I guess I recalled too much about the LD!

What, me picky?
I have noticed, since I have owned my Mini, I seem to be more picky about the quality of things I buy, services provided, is it because I am getting older, or, could it be because I comepare everything to my Mini... I mean it's such a solid car, not much to complain about, well, except for the little surprise I found when I disconnected my battery the other day, then proceded to close the hatch! Opps! You can't open the hatch at all with out the battery connected!
What was the question again?
Oh yeah, pickiness. No, I'm not a picky person at all.
I was picky before I got my Mini.
I was very picky and I'm still very picky about 99% of everything.
That is exactly why I chose a 2009 Mini JCW over many other cars I could have had. I researched a lot of cars and the Mini just seemed to be the car I wanted.

I am a 'picky' person by nature. I tend to be one of those people that do not shop for bargains in discount stores etc, not because I am stuck-up, but because I prefer to save up for something that I really REALLY love.
Which is why I bought my Mini on Friday - nothing less would do!
cheers,
Glen

PICKY? I don't think I've ever been accused of being picky.
****, on the other hand is an adjective that might be used to describe some of my demands for quality.
So to the Big Three I say... Good riddance.

Ah, I had a '96, the year they changed everything. The radiator had to be replaced twice, and the starter went before I hit 50,000. It was a pain in my ***. A friend of mine had the same year and had to rebuild her motor before she even finished paying it off. I hear about owners from almost every other year that were happy with theirs, but I just have that stigma now, you know?

Yes, that's understandable, but not much really changed from 95 to 96. Yes, the body was redesigned, but the instrument panel/dashboard, redesigned for 95, and the entire interior was carried over from 95, as was the running gear.
On a more personal-opinion note, no offense to you or any other 96-or-later owners, but I much prefered the original squared-back body style over the more rounded redesign. I also prefered the redesigned for 95, more rounded instrument panel cover pod thingy that your car also had. So basically, I think I got the best of all the years of the SL series - the original exterior and the redesigned interior. But that's just me.
As with most cars I have owned, in retrospect, I could have kept it and been happy with it. I had the car 8 years. I might have needed to start making repairs to it, but it still would've been cheaper than monthly payments. I liked the car a lot, in a transportation-only kind of way.
i think if i was picky.. i would sell my mini.. as much as i love it..
33k miles.. a new tranny, water pump, thermostat housing, ps pump, door lock regulator, a/c evap on and on and on .
