I haven't seen it in person yet either, but my understanding is that while it doesn't have the blue flakes in it, it's still a metallic black.

I stopped by my local dealer yesterday to find out when I could order a JCW R57 and did a side by side comparison both in the bright sun and indoor lights and can say that Midnight Black is a "proper black" compared to the Astro. I could not see any flakes in the metallic paint.

Oh but BMW/MINI love metallic colors. $500 each time one goes on a MINI. I wish there were more non-matalics to choose from.

Lightning Blue looks very similar to Hyper Blue. I guess we will see some variation of LB in the future.

I've seen a few, but is a very rare color. I've seen them with both a white top & silver top. For me PH/S is the bomb....

Aw I wanted to see Root Beer. There was a Solid Gold at my apartment but they left. Saw Silk Green at a rally. Black Eye Purple is pretty awesome too. My fave is of course Hyper or Indi Blue; I got Lightning Blue but won't be trading up to a cabrio until they get a proper dark blue or something as "out there" as the dark red, purple or similar again.

There is a solid Root beer in my town that I've seen. Once even got to talk to the guy. It is a beautiful MINI and the color I wanted for my first one. By the time I ordered mine, Root Beer was gone. I went with Indy Blue instead.

Here are a few pics of our '06 Black-eye purple/White MC. Love the fact color takes on different hues under different lighting.

I really would like to have a Mayfair or Camden, but I just can't give up Pete, my Solid Gold!

I like my Liquid Yellow. Interstate is too green & Mellow was too dark. Plus there is only 1 other Liquid Yellow Convertibe in my city & it isn't sporting chrome like Butters.

Not quite yet O2 blue is still offered in the configurator.

True... Someone could probably still get one if they really wanted to. I guess I'll wait 'til March.

So, what's everyone's guesses as to the next color to be "retired"?

Honestly, I'm kinda surprised that OB and Nightfire Red have lasted as long as they have as Cooper-only colors, so I would guess NFR as the next to go. It's a nice color, but normally Cooper-only colors and "non-Chili" reds don't last long.

A while back a friend of ours brought her Velvet Red Cooper by. I could not resist taking a couple of pictures of her car next to our '64 Wolseley Hornet.
Here are two retired MINI, Mini colors Velvet Red and Damask Red.

Happy Motoring,
Jack

Cosmos Black

I had no idea that Cosmos Black would be so rare that it wouldn't even be posted on this thread. Well, here it is, the elusive Cosmos Black on my '02 MINI Cooper. Originally, he had a white roof, white mirrors and silver star blaster alloys, and coming with the sprts pkg, he came with striking black and red sprt seats, so I eventually painted his roof and mirrors red. MINI gave me a wonderful cast iron miniature--which I'm sure y'all have seen--and it was in his original configuration, red seats and all. Here he is today (I love the little fellow--he is a weekend drive right now, so I hope to keep him always):
