General MINI TalkShared experiences, motoring minutes, and other general MINI-related discussion that applies to all MINIs, regardless of model, year or trim.
I was taking my 7 and 9 year olds to school this morning when my son asked about naming cars. I explained reasons people choose to name their car or boat. My son asked why people refer to cars and boats as "she". Then he said he would want his car to be more like a man, tough and strong. So then my son and daughter suggested we name the Mini "Larry".
No offense to any and all "Larry's" out there - but I am not sure about my Mini being named Larry. Oh, well. Tomorrow they may have a new name selected.
We have a LR3 HSE that is the same color named Witz (gene simmons' real last name), so with Sophie being his daughter, it seemed like the logical name!
Out of the mouths of babes!! I think Larry is a great name and I vote you keep it. My 06MCS is named Snert after the little dog in the funny papers. The one with the duck that goes kvack!!
My Mini is named 'George' after the Bugs Bunny cartoon where the Abonimibible snowman wanted a bunny named 'George'...
It's too bad your name isn't Lenny. All of those old Warner Brothers cartoons (Bugs Bunny included) got that "which way did he go, George?" schtick from the movie of "Of Mice and Men" from the '30s starring Burgess Meredith as George and Lon Chaney Jr. as the retarded Lenny. When I finally saw the movie, all of those old cartoons suddenly made that much more sense.
Maybe the car is named for Larry Dallas, the upstairs neighbor on Three's Company? (top center in the cast photo, below)
My kids are much, much too young to know about Three's Company! I am not sure where they got Larry from. We don't have any family or close friends named Larry.

Hey jrammon,
WOW! This sounds like a great concept for a children's book!
In fact I think that the above story about your son would make a good premise for the story titled, what else... A MINI named Larry!

What do you guys think?
You might be right. So far the kids are sticking with Larry and it is growing on me as well. I suppose I will let "Larry" tell the story and see what adventures he has in store for our family.
