25 and hell by the time I get the car I might be 26... I wish I had enough money to buy my own, so I'm paying for half along with someone else. How the heck can you buy 3 cars by the time your 20!? Im curious....lottery perhaps?
Here is a histogram showing data collected in the MINI Owner's Lounge a few years ago. I suspect the basics of this curve remain the same. The average age is around 40 with ages ranging from mid-teen student driver up to ~80 years old
(The dip in the late 20s is probably reflecting young married folk who have financial obligations preventing them from "splurging" on a MINI.)
Another reason for the mid to late 20's dip could be something I hear
all the time. "We're having a baby and so of course we'll have to get
rid of our compact or subcompact car. Need something really big and
heavy for safety and transporting people and stuff now."
<< 22 now. got the car when I was 21. When I got my career going I got the car. It was between The Lexus GS (something "professional"), STi or the MCS (fun). The Mini Just knocked my Socks off when I drove it.

I completely agree with this explanation of the drop-off in ownership around 25-35. My husband and I aren't ready to have a kid and figure it will be at least 3 years before we do, so it seemed reasonable to get the Mini. Had we been ready for kids, unlikely we would have made this choice...I figured I could drive around a boring, run-o-the-mill sedan for the next three years, or just get on with enjoying my child-free life
(not that you can't enjoy life with kids--not trying to offend anyone...just saying I'm making this choice for now so I may well enjoy things I might not be able to have if I have kids.)
So, the "What's your second car" thread got me thinking. What is the average age of a MINI owner/driver? A lot of participants of that thread indeed had a second (or even third!) vehicle.
On that histogram did anyone else notice one driver is 13 and we don't have anyone over 90. Common lets get someone 95 to drive a MINI. Not sure how fast they would want to be going though.
I wonder how old the oldest race car driver is? That still races.
