Blind person feeling MINI

I just came out of a grocery store to find a blind woman feeling my car. Her brother was with her, and he wanted her to feel the curves and size of my MINI. This wasn't shocking to me though as I have heard of this from other MINI owners.

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Post your stories here!

I just get people looking inside my car... Often... Not like mine is special or anything... probably because there aren't many Mini's in my area. That's cool though. I wonder what that lady thought about your car.

That is SO cool. I bet she liked what she felt!!! We also have lots of folks looking at the cars and asking questions but I frown on touching except in a case like yours.

Blind or not, someone gets fingerprints on my shiny paint there's an ***-whooping coming their way.

Okay, seriously... that does surprise me that someone would put their hands all over your car, even if they are blind and they want to "see" how cute the car is.

I've come out to my car sometimes and caught people looking in or standing near it checking it out. I show them a closer look of the interior... they always comment about it, saying they're surprised it's so nice inside. I think they expect it to look cheap.

I've never had anyone do that before but it brought to mind a 'feeling' story from a few years back.

In 1998, I went to the 'Run To the Wall' in Washignton DC. It takes place on Memorial Day weekend when hundreds of thousands of bikers converge on the the Vietnam War Memorial in DC.

A couple of my riding friends had served in Vietnam, and many people from all over the country were at the wall looking for and at names. That day, due o the sheer numbers of people, I never approached The Wall too closely because I never lost anyone in that conflct and felt like I'd be intruding upon the space of so many people there that day who did.

As I was observing the whole scene from a respectable distance, I noticed an older woman at The Wall with a guard-assistant beside her. Unlike many people who touch a name of a loved one on The Wall as an emotional gesture, this woman's fingers were what I might call browsing.

What I came realize was that she was blind and was searching for, and then actually 'reading' the name of the person she was 'looking for.' I could tell when she found the name by her body language.

I instantly got that ol' lump in the throat, and quickly after that tears in my eyes. I took a picture of her doing her 'reading'. Every time I see that picture it affects me in almost the same way the scene did when I observed it.

So, did your MINI drive any differently after the "feel job"? I'm pretty sure I would!

Erik, great story. Thank you for sharing it.

Well I have a story...
So I'm driving with my parents to pick up some chinese food in my mini, and by the way I love Chinese food!!!!...anyways As I get to the chinese food place, I park My mini backwards so the bonnet side is facing at the chinese food place....I believe this is a mini Gene, because all of sudden i'm parking backwards where ever I go...work..grocery store...friends house...yeah i'm addicted parking backwards! Anyways back to the story as I go outside with chinese food in my hand I've notice a SUV coming my way...So i've waited till the SUV pass so I can cross the street.
But the SUV took it sweet time..reason the SUV took it's time because it was checking out my mini. So the SUV parked next to my mini and the guy gets out(mind you my parents are inside the car waiting for me). The guy is literally checking out my mini he goes around the car and admiring it.
As he tries to put his hand in my window to get a closer look he notice my mother sitting at the passenger seat waving at him. He gets embarresed and walks away to a nearby store. The reason the guy couldn't see my parents because I have pretty dark tinted windows...BUT this put a smile on my face because the guy was checking out my HOT mini!

So yeah...that is my cool story...and remember park backwards it makes your mini look COOL!

My daughter is legally blind. She has a unigue monacle for driving (8) years, no accidents. It took me 3 years to get in the car with her, I was being put under for a procedure, she was the only one available to drive me.

When first getting the MINI, I actually let her drive it. She was in heaven and would let her drive it long before many others I know. She is always telling people she gets to drive a MINI. Works with the blind, I think I'd let her students share the joy of "touching", hadn't thought about doing this. Their looks are priceless just hearing the engine and describing this little car.

Any blind person is more than welcome to feel up my LilTiger No problem.

They won't even see me running around behind them with quick detailer spray and a MF towel.

It's a win-win, feel good story for all of us

It would have been funny if she told you that you need to clay your paint!

I get a good bit of looks and I contribute that to the fact that in my area, there's a few MINI's but not too many. Better yet, the MINI's I see around here are all stock, save for maybe 1 or 2. Modded MINI's FTW!

That's pretty cool to have someone "look" at your car like that. The only thing that would make me nervous about it is how hot the bonnet can get (at least on an '07 MCS). Even after a short drive, the bonnet on my MINI can get extremely hot.

I would be worried about the hot bonnet too! Last thing anyone needs is a law suit from someone getting burned from looking at your hot mini. Maybe there needs to be a disclaimer etched on the hood somewhere.

+1. If the person making the swirl can't see it, does that mean it's not there?

Though it would be pretty embarrasing to get your butt whooped by a blind chick. Better think twice.

No blind people were harmed in the making of this post. If I offended any, they need to chill out.

Actually, since one can tell a car needs claying better by feel than by sight,
wouldn't be too surprising for a blind person to notice that.
