What happened to the simple wave?

I own a Mini and a Jeep. I would put a Mini in the same club as a Jeep for being a unique person and owns a cool vehicle. I can't tell you how many times I have WAVED at other Mini owners only to get NOTHING! I have also owned VW and motorcycles and the owners wave. Are Mini owners too good to wave? How do we acknowledge one another and the experience of owning a Mini? I'm not here saying we have to be like other car owners but the Mini is a unique car with a unique owner and an acknowlegemnt from other drivers of Mini's would be nice!

Sadly, at least around here, this appears to be the case. Pitiful.

It's fun to wave to other MINI drivers, and getting a response back is fun as well, I also wave to other unique cars on the road and get waves back too!

I'm too good to wave but I'll wave in spite of that.

We wave.

It is about 60/40 here in Boulder County. Of course, some days I don't even see another MINI on the roads, unless I drive into Boulder around lunch time.

As stated on the other 5 threads about waving, it does depend on the time of day. Morning is good before office stress sets in, lunch is good, after work sucks, people are focused on getting home and away from the heat of the day. Weekends, mostly good, especially if you see a group of MINIs out for a nice drive with friends.

Keep waving, you will get a wave back.

I'm a waver, and proud of it!

I've been wanting this car for years. Now that I have it I'm waving to all the other Mini owners. Heck with them if they can't share a little Mini love with a simple wave. I beep and wave to those not paying much attention also.

I drive a bus when I'm not havin a blast driving " Basil " I always wave at the driver coming the other way sometimes I get one back sometimes not. Today I gave the thumbs up to a MINI from Utah and he gave me a thumbs up back and I was driving a "Bus". I think it's just the way of the world

I wonder if some of the non waving mini drivers are just not happy with their cars, sad really. I've also noticed that this topic has been a common thread lately, it just goes to show that the wave really does seem to matter still.

I'm a waving fool, but I am also someone who has been in the MINI community since early in 2002. I live in West L.A. and there are so many MINIs here now, that it is a rarity to get a wave back. I find often that the problem is making eye contact. If I make eye contact, I get acknowledgement. I also wave at folks in other makes and motorcycles...and just about always get a wave back. I figure it's the luck of the draw.

I wave. I have gotten one wave back in all my waving....BUT, it was a wave that I will never forget. It was a Mellow Yellow R56 MCS, driven by a goddess. Ever have one of those slow motion moments?

The girl was drop-dead gorgeous and the wave was slow and deliberate backed with a big smile that got bigger as we approached each other. And her smile got bigger too!

Now, everytime I wave, I am waving at her. Whether I get waves back or not does not matter to me. I will always have my beautiful, gorgeous girl in her Mellow Yellow to remember.

I think to some MINI owners it's a means of transportation and to others, like most every one on NAM, it's all about the car. I wave every time I see a MINI and I get a response about 50% of the time. I also have a Corvette and "waveing" was the norm but I find the people that drive the late model C5 and C6 seldom wave and to them it may be just the status symbol, who knows.

I wave. Most (75%) wave back. Most are oblivious to the outside world...

And oh yeah, if you see some guy in a Honda Element waving, that's me. I so get in the habit, when I get in the wife's car, I totally forget, then realize the person in the MINI is even more perplexed! LOL!

I can deffinately say after this weekend the wave isn't dead, just kinda sputtering. I got a lot of waves. Hey if you like to wave do it, if you keep waving at the same car eventually they will get it and wave back.

It wasn't just a wave. It was a defining moment in time.

Being an old, ugly, fart, it is pretty cool when a pretty young lady smiles and waves at me. It just does not happen!

I wave...whether you are in the lane next to me, two lanes away, five lanes away, 5 cars in front, 5 cars in back, at a 4-way intersection to my left/right or dead ahead, the other side of the freeway going in the opposite direction, or on an overpass zooming over my head. If I catch a glimpse of a MINI within line of sight, they get an enthusiastic wave.

It doesn't matter if they are an Obliviot and don't wave back. Waving made ME happy. Seeing another MINI made ME happy. I fulfilled my cult obligation by waving. And, about 75% of the time, I feel on top of the world because the other person DOES wave back.

I wave all of the time as well, when I am in my Mini now I wave at Jeeps! HAHA! I live and travel in the Washington DC area, Annapolis, and Baltimore area and I would think more than one Mini would wave. As in other post I will still wave but man it would be nice if we could all just WAVE!

Sadly, here in the Houston area I rarely get a wave or flash. I see a lot of MCs, and I think they're just "economy transportation" for a lot of people. There is a strong MINI community here, though, so I'm still hopeful.

You know Febmoon1, as a waver myself, I've noticed that there are those moments when I find myself in a passing encounter with another Mini motorist and it just isn't safe for me to wave (especially if I'm doing 58 in a 35! ). There are those moments when there is nothing immediate about the encounter and folks simply don't acknowledge the wave. Like when you sit at a light waiting to go through the intersection, wondering what the Mini sitting on the other side is thinking; only to wave in passing once the light turns green to no avail . This lack of response has no excuse and should be chalked up as "Mini-envy" at every opportunity.

The other thing that has happened at a light is, sitting next to a MINI and wave and the owner doesn't even acknowledge sitting next to them. If they want a commuter car and a car without personality there are plenty of hybrids to buy without personality!
