Never been tailgated

I know it's a lot to read, and I don't blame you. You can just skip it if you want... sometimes we sort it out and come to a common conclusion, other times we just seem to go in circles!
Notice one thing though... we don't throw personal insults at each other as we debate. Healthy respect here, even if we don't see eye-to-eye.
I forgot...there have a "few" times I've been tailgated...when the opportunity arrises, I move over in a blink, brake hard, slide in behind them and stick it to them...
If they're comfortable riding me, then they should feel right at home with me up their A$$!!!! Fairs fair...

LOL - don't mind us... that's just me and chows... we've had a few long arguments over the past few years. Do some searching under our names and "SUV". ROFL

i know why the traffics are so messed up in 10 lane highways in america.. cuz of some tards who occupies the left lane for their pleasures and cruise along at speed limit Plus the tards who thinks that the best way to respond to tailgaters is to slow wayy down and ignore the fast traffics... dur dur dur move the f.over
anyways, i know its illegal to pass on right in maryland.. cuz i've been through with many traffic laws with my lawyers... NUMEROUS times....

Two wrongs still don't make a right... just let them go man... they'll get theirs when 5-0 is over the next hill.
Not according to the statutes we quoted... you mean to say you've been charged with passing on the right in MD before? Do you have any documentation or info as to the laws themselves? Unless the laws changed inbetween then and now...
EDIT: Man, I thought I had already read page 3, but when i went back I was hit with a surpirse =). Anyways, it seems it's easier in illinois as you can drive in the left as long as no one is behind you. Sweet law IMO. The least enforced laws IMO that would do a lot of good in terms of the road are: signal requirement and littering.
I didn't look it up for maryland as I live in Illinois, but here in illinois, it seems you can pass on the right since one of the conditions is that you can pass if there is sufficient lanes for two cars traveling in that direction, but in respect to driving on the leftmost lane on the highway there is a law against that:
(d) Upon an Interstate highway or fully access controlled freeway, a vehicle may not be driven in the left lane, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle.
(e) Subsection (d) of this Section does not apply:
(1) when no other vehicle is directly behind the
vehicle in the left lane;
(2) when traffic conditions and congestion make it
impractical to drive in the right lane;
(3) when snow and other inclement weather conditions
make it necessary to drive in the left lane;
(4) when obstructions or hazards exist in the right
lane;
(5) when a vehicle changes lanes to comply with
Sections 11‑907 and 11‑908 of this Code;
(6) when, because of highway design, a vehicle must
be driven in the left lane when preparing to exit;
(7) on toll highways when necessary to use I‑Pass,
and on toll and other highways when driving in the left lane is required to comply with an official traffic control device; or
(8) to law enforcement vehicles, ambulances, and
other emergency vehicles engaged in official duties and vehicles engaged in highway maintenance and construction operations.

This whole thing is ducking reficulous. If you are going to fart along, keep your *** in the right lane, where you are supposed to be. It's called courtesy. You have the right to go on the subway stinking. Does that mean you should???
like i said. two professors talking it out as if they were talking about wat their favorite car is.

so i think everyone should just tailgate everyone and people going slow on the left lane should get rammed and anyone going slow should be veered off the road..
(kidding of course..

Tailgating is dangerous. Not only to the person doing it but to anyone in the car being tailgated too. Also to everyone else in the area who are affected by the 2 cars now out of control should an accident occur. I have never agreed with the idea that speed kills. The safest roads have no limits. However, those people follow the rules. All of them. The ones that don't get caught and pay stiff fines. We don't. We pick and chose wich rules suit us and our situation regardless of what it means to others. I know this sounds like preaching but look around. People get into accidents because of stupidity, someone ignoring the basic rules for there own selfish reasons. And yes that has included myself. The question is do we chose to flash our lights and hit our horns or back off and ask the question. Is this worth the possible consequences?
Now ... for the passing on the left and impeding, I agree, you can be braking two laws at once. That's easy to do

As to the German model, that might be the chicken and the egg thing.
Since on the autobahn, your talking about, in some stretches, no speed limits, obviuosly you need some lane "protocol". Otherwise that Porsche or Ferrari coming up real quick in the left lane flashing their highs is going to get very upset.
I just read a trip report of someone doing a European Delivery of their Porsche and the experience of doing exactly that on the no speed limit portion (in this case the max speed was about 150). Kinda scary moving onto "slow moving 90 mph traffic". The point being, that fits in well here. The difference between doing like 160 - 180 mph coming up on 90 mph traffic is HUGE, very HUGE.
Since the speed limits in the US are limited to 80 mph (part of I20 in west texas), the lane protocol thing is kind of moot. Everyone on those interstates are doing 80. My point is more for the East where there is simply so much traffic, there really is no "high speed lane". Now granted, just today I saw someone who just insisted in weaving in and out of traffic, across lanes, with all traffic moving at about 60 mph. And the point being, he had no where to go but he had to keep trying to get ahead of everyone

I think it comes down to the amount of traffic. Lots of traffic, no need for lane protocol. Relatively slow top speed, no need for lane protocol. Huge difference between unlimited speeds and general traffic, yes lane protocol.
Now you could say that if the US had lane protocols, they could raise the speed limits. Nevada and Montana used to be R&P pre-1973. In the PC attitudes of today, IMO, those days are long gone. Politicians could never survive R&P speed limits if deaths started to occur because of speeds. Further, the autobahns are built for the speed. The roads are far thicker than US roads. Can you imagine if NV and MT went to R&P? The public outcry would be immense.
I think we are about as close as we are going to get here

BTW, not to change the subject, the VA circuit court of appeal reversed the lower court rulings on the VA Penalty Fees saying they were constitutional. Dunno where that is heading.
I guess you've never been on the NYC or Boston subways, huh?
Have any of you ever looked at the other side of the highway? The other day I did this and saw it go from light brisk traffic to stopped cars. all along they way, it was easy to point out the ones gradually causing heavier traffic until the ultimate stopped cars. Stopped cars on the highway... now THAT's dangerous.
