MINI Prototype Preview video 1997

Media preview (from my own Mini video clips archive) of the new MINI on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1997. Almost a hoax as it was a "skin prototype" based on the modified platform, engine and running gear of a Fiat Punto! It successfully diverted publicity at the show from the arrival of the new Mercedes A-Class and Smart cars. This news clip includes an interview with the late John Cooper.

(See post 3 below for new extended 10 minute version)

Very interesting!!!!! Notice the two tailpipes on the Cooper (who can miss it?) and the Rover wings!

MINI Launch Preview Video 1997 (New 10 Minute Version)
Just uploaded this interesting new extended 10 minute version of the 'New MINI preview in 1997' as first shown on the 'Men & Motors' TV channel at the time.......copied from some old vhs video tapes that I have recently started transferring over onto DVD.

Interviews with Nick Stephenson (Rover Group Design Director) and John Cooper at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show Preview of the New MINI. With BMW investment the MINI (R50) project was being designed and developed by Rover Engineers at Gaydon with production planned for the Longbridge factory.........

Well the 1997 shape made it through and aren't we all glad. I think that Rrover design did a good job although I am also sure their was plenty of input from the boys of BMW.

awesome video. I love seeing how things originated. I just wish they showed the interior of it.

Check out this video. Look at the crazy mini concept in the beginning. the interior is so crazy too.

Awesome videos. I remember seeing that car in 1997 in Road & Track I believe it was -- right then I knew it would be a car I will own. Brings back memories...

Here is some launch footage for the 'new' BMW Mini back in 2001.

Mike Brewer introduces the New 'Rover' MINI to the Classic Mini just before the 2001 Launch, on the Channel 4 Motoring programme 'Driven'.
