Oil Service Reset

My MCS is only used 6 months a year (summer car) and would like to change the oil myself every 10,000 KM (6250 miles). Let us say that the oil service indicator shows 5,000 KM before oil change, can I reset it by following the Mini Mania Procedure (no reset tool)? Thanks.

Don't do it. If you do, the dealership will screw you out of your service 1 and service 2 checks. A better way to do it would be to change the oil at half the service interval and then let the dealer do it when it says it is time.

In the olden days

For some reason this discussion has made me remember my first Honda automobile (1982ish.....).

There was a service interval counter built into the dash. And it was QUITE compatable with owner service and resets .... all you did was stick the key in a slot in the dash and the indicator was reset.....

Oh, for the good old days.
