I can still remember that black May weekend at San Marino in '85. First Roland Ratzenberger, then Aryton.
Seems at times like it was yesterday that I was watching his genius behind the wheel.
Many say that Schumi is the greatest F1 driver but for me Senna was simply the best! Hands down, no questions asked.

++2 Yes, thanks for posting that tribute. Well done graphics, and a real walk down memory lane for those of us who still believe he was a truly special race car driver. I saw a memorial to him in Adelaide, and had a quiet moment remembering what it was like to follow F1 back in those days. Not like today, I'm afraid.

I escorted Senna to a tv interview in 1988 at the Detroit GP. I worked the victory circle and put my AE1 program on my shoulder and took pictures of the champagne being sprayed all over by him.

rrudorf - good catch!
May 1 1994 indeed... sad sad day.
Memories of Senna in 85 are instead of his oh so special drive in the rain in the black JPSLotus where he ALMOST got his first win.
Glad to see we have several Senna fans here!

I'm so sorry and I feel quite foolish posting the wrong date. Thanks for the correction. I meant to write, May 1, 1994.

BTW, isn't the Imola circuit where the San Marino GP is held?
I love this tribute to the great Ayrton Senna. The beginning with the go kart is awsome. I had the honor of being beaten by Senna at the international Kart race in Sugo Japan in 1978. We were the same age of 18, Senna was a few months older. Senna placed second behind World Champion Tony Zorsel (sic) of Austiria. Of course at the time I had no idea who Senna was or would become. It was many years later when I was looking through my time sheets from that race when I realized Senna had been there.
More about Senna, when I was volunteering at the Detroit GP, the corner workers thought he was the biggest A hole going. They said Senna never waived after races, never tipped his cap to the volunteers.
Second thought, search Senna on YouTube sometime. There is film of him testing the NSX for Honda. He was so cool about his praise for the car. Never over the top or too excited even though he was on their payroll.
I saved every press clipping I could find about his death and have it in a manila envelope at home. I have a Nacional cap, a helmet pin, full color sticker sets from his last Williams car. I was 33 when he died and really thought of him as a hero.
Too much rambling.

One of the few F1 races I caught, and it was this one. I couldn't beleive it happened so quickly.
It was how many years ago? Damn time flies.:impatient
