2007 Formula 1 Discussion Thread
Here some very interesting times from yesterday @ Jerez.
Testing times from Jerez (18 January)
1. DAVIDSON Super Aguri 1m19.628s
2. FISICHELLA Renault 1m19.754s
3. ROSBERG Williams 1m20.059s
4. KOVALAINEN Renault 1m21.026s
Of course these times mean nothing until the green drops in OZ. But, last season even with empty tanks, the Super Happy Friends Squad couldn't even get close to the times the top teams were running. So maybe they have done a little bit to improve over the winter break....Yet another reason to watch on saturday night , March 17.

New number 2s
Wow,
No one mentioned that McLaren & Renault both have rookies as the #2 driver. Talk about adding some uncertainty to the constructors' championships. It does avoid the issue at Ferrari of who is number #1 and if it's not set how is it going to be addressed.

Hehehehehe....I'm jussss playin'.....Randy I agree, if Ferrari can conitnue their near-bullet-proof-reliability, Kimi will have a tremendous chance at the WDC.
what is it 57 dats left til the season stars...55 if you count practice ?

Kimi, the first celeb ever that you can mimic perfectly with text alone.
Ya, but how can we tell that's a proper imitation of Kimi if we can't see the microphone being adjusted every five seconds?
Sorry, playing catch up...I think this might for interesting strategy; presumably the harder compound will allow higher fuel loads for the beginning of a race leaving the softer for the scramble...or anything between.
Looks like they may have decided to adopt the red "tyre" rule this year.

I hope this means the F2007 is wicked fast:
Kimi Raikkonen completed his first day as a Ferrari driver this afternoon, having spent the day getting used to the 2006 F248.
A Ferrari statement explained that while Raikkonen concentrated on getting used to the car and team, team mate Felipe Massa was entrusted with development work on the teams 2007 challenger, the F2007.
The Maranello based outfit have moved the test from nearby Mugello, a ffected by poor weather conditions, to the 'Piero Taruffi' circuit at Vallelunga, near Rome.
During the course of the day Massa set the fastest lap in the new car, around the mid one minute fourteen mark, while Raikkonens best in the old car was less than seven tenths slower.
The team will continue testing tomorrow, and will hope for better weather than the damp day they endured today.

i like the new Renault...
Can anyone explain why we MINI owners strive for the tallest wheels an lowest profile tire to increase handling and the F1 boys seem to use big donuts? I know there are other factors at play but...

I really liked Renault's test color scheme, but as messy as this is at least they got rid of that nauseating shade of light blue from previous years. On the other hand, it'll be easy to pick this one out on the track (interestingly, that's also the only positive thing I could think of to defend the previous light blue and yellow scheme.....).
I can't find the rule at the moment, but there's a max wheel size regulation.
From Article 12.4 - Wheel dimensions:
12.4.2 Complete wheel diameter must not exceed 660mm when
fitted with dry-weather tyres or 670mm when fitted with wet-weather
tyres.
fitted with dry-weather tyres or 670mm when fitted with wet-weather
tyres.
[FYI - "Complete Wheel" is the wheel and inflated tire]
12.4.4 Wheel bead diameter must lie between 328 and 332mm.
So, max wheel diameter is about 13.1" but min inflated tire diameter is about 26".
And may I add, that the wheel dimension is that size for a safety reason. The FIA felt that by having a small diameter wheel, the brake rotors would be smaller, and thus the brakes wouldn't be insanely powerful. Hmm,not sure if the word they used was "insane", might have been some french counterpart .
And oh yeah....the new renault looks GROSS. Might have to stop eating my lunch while I look at it, I am probably going to puke in my mouth.
