Thanks, Dave.

I now believe the car is capable of a sub minute lap on that track. Just probably not with me behind the wheel.

Another autocross down.

2nd in class (with my voluntary bump up a class) to a Knight-Rider era Firebird with Bridgestone RE-01-R tires.

I hit a cone - the last possible cone to hit - on my fastest run. :(

Next autocross I should be on R-compounds.

Just RA-1. I much prefer the track to autocrossing, so I'm getting tires that are more track suited. Locals have told me that our autocrosses won't take too much track life off the RA-1s, so I'm going to use one set for both autocross and HPDE / time trials.

I've been working on cleaning up the new to me 17" Centerline RPM wheels...

I'm pretty sure the metal bits belong on the inside of the tire.

That's what I like to see!

Still plenty of tread left

Horn tooting time!

I just got my instructor evaluation from the last BMWCCA event I went to... I've been promoted to run group 1 (the most advanced student run group)!

I was wondering if anyone had made some stickers or had them drawn up on the computer ready for printing/cutting?

there seems to be a market for these....

I finally had an autocross event I was happy with this season. I've been running a class higher than my car actually classifies at (we don't use SCCA classes) after coming close to sweeping the events the last two years. Yesterday's event was the first time I got a first in my new class, at least with the regulars for that class in attendance.

Of course, I still felt like I was driving well below the limits of the car. But I think I event placed fairly well out of the entire field, so it couldn't have been that bad.

I also took my last run in a friend's Miata, because I really enjoy driving those cars. My time in the Miata didn't count, because it's in a higher class than my MINI. For a while, I thought I was going to be in trouble with the Miata's owners, a husband and wife couple. I was faster in the Miata than the wife of the couple (who had only taken her morning runs at that point). But, she got much faster in the afternoon - beating my time pretty substantially, and looking like she was about to go faster than her husband on her last run, until she over-cooked a turn and took out a cone.

I also let a few other people take the Cooper out for fun runs at the end of the day. Everyone got out of it saying it's a fun car to drive.

I took a fun run in an MCS, which seemed a little frantic, most likely due to a lack of grip, and another Miata. If the brown MINI were to suddenly dissapear, it would probably get replaced by a Miata.

I had a fun weekend of driving. Saturday was my first day out as an instructor for a car control clinic / advanced skills school with the BMWCCA... mainly teaching skidpad excercises. I spent a lot of the morning getting pointers and practicing driving rear wheel drive cars, and the afternoon teachin on the skidpad.

Sunday was out last autocross for the season. :( I managed another first in class, and for the first time this summer I ended the day without thinking "I could have gone a lot faster". Of course, a few hours later I realized that I could have picked up a few more tenths by using some left foot braking, which I had practiced on Saturday on the skidpad. Oh well.

Off to an HPDE on Thursday!

Back safe and sound. I did a little instructor development role playing, and discovered that there's a lot to keep track of when you're driving, talking about what you are doing to teach someone the track, and watching out for faster traffic all at the same time. At least this was just role playing, and I wasn't really teaching a newbie the track.

Anyway, here's some video:

Hello to all at team justacooper!!

My name is Clinton and I'm from Flagstaff AZ. I belong to the Dynamic Mini Collective motoring club and I'm the tech chief for our local SCCA SOLO club (started in 06' with the inagural officer elections in 8/07. I don't really have time to look through the forum history but from what I have read I'm in! I have been autoXn my Precious for one season (novice of course) in 2 chapters within 1 region and I am enjoying the hell out of it!! I placed second in the series in Flagstaff (mainly because they grouped all novices together so a 06' Caddy CTS with a Z06 engine and Prepared well beat me but my Precious justacooper beat a Modified Evo 7 the owner wasn't too happy bout that though) and I took first in the Phoenix series out of all novices (I even managed to pull within 5 sec of TTOD from a Z06 Prepared Vette). My Precious is in STS (with some modifications) and would like to knock a few civics and miatas of the podium for S&G and becuase I know it can and will be DONE!! I'm looking forward to the gaining and sharing of knowledge with other like minded justacooper owners.

BTW how does one obtain the club graphic?

Team,

Unfortunately, I damaged my justacooper last weekend at the track. I had one payment left on it at the time. I was planning on getting a second car soon so I could make the justa more of a track car.

After looking at the video of my last fast lap in the brown MINI, I now know that I must get it rebuilt and back on the track.

good quicktime version:
http://gallery.mac.com/jtross#100000

crappy youtube version:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GJoqalPNef8

But, in the meantime, my new daily driver is going to be an R56 MCS. I know... I caved in to the peer pressure. That, and all the Coopers I could find were over $22,000 and there were some $23,000 MCSes available.

Don't worry, I will not spend a dollar on modifying the MCS until the Cooper is rebuilt and back on the track.

Am I still part of the team? :D

I need some kind of "I wish I were driving my Cooper" sticker for the MCS.
