Drag strip videos :)
YEsssssss finally someone who is interested!!! Ok, it took about 4 passes to get down! I rev to 3,000 rpm, and slip the clutch, but is a weird process.
The tree has the 3 yellow lights, I go on the 2nd, when it lights, yeah, it looks like i redlight, but they are great starts! I dump the clutch to the grab point, but hold it, and floor it once the clutch grabs, and then slip it out quick enough to not get any wheel spin, but slow enough to to not boog the motor, i had it down to a science that day, it was great.
The next key to a good run was to not chrip second, just hit it as hard as i could without any wheel spin, and shift flat for 3rd, quick enough does not get any wheel spin.
I would say that keeping the wheels from spinning was they key for the day, i had some really great runs and was really satisfiyed with how much grip the stock tires have (goodyear eagle rsa runflats).

That day it was bone stock! I have just ordered the magnaflow exhaust, rear swaybar and mini-madness intake from mini-motorsport.com this week, and plan on going april 4th, when the track opens again to see the difference.
I was giving my racing experience some serious thought and forgot a very key detail about running the MCS.
The gearing is such that on every good pass I made, the car crossed the finnish line at or just after it hit fuel cutoff in 3rd gear. This seemed like an easy fix, just shift to 4th quick, but when I did that, the times were slower by 2tenths of a second or so, it worked better to just let the fuel cutoff hit, and keep going, and shut things down before it hit a second time.
What I wound up doing at the end of the race day, was just giving the gas a breather before crossing the finish line, to avoid hitting the fuel cutoff, and also avoid having to shift to fourth. That is how i got my best time.
I wonder how the performance modifications are going to play into this, and if a shift to 4th gear will be necessary or not.
Insight into this idea is very welcome.

Hey Chandler that has to be the BEST Thread in the history of MCO. I have watched that over and over and you have given me a time to beat. I cannot wait to get on the track and see what I can do. Way to go man. As my Drill Sgt. said "Outstanding". Who said a MINI cannot run fast on a drag strip!!!
I'm not big on non-reprogrammable chips because they instantly void the warranty, but you might want to think about an ECU reprogramming to extend the cutoff RPM. I know the engine is fairly safe up to ~7200.
Randy, Are you watching this thread... any input on this?

Anyone who has drag times should post them so we can keep a tally.
Please include modifications and time/speed.

>>Is doing that bad for the drivetrain??? And I still don't understand, dumping the clutch and slipping it, can you elaborate???
sorry, im on cold medecine!
part 1: What i do is just come off the clutch half way out, to where it just starts to grab but do it really quick, but stop on clutch release once i feel it grab. throttle input in this stage is 3k for the lights, and increase to the range of 4-6k upon clutch release.
part 2: hold the clutch for a sec, but keep releasing it, slower though, once the car is moving pretty good, just slam the gas down, and come off the clutch all the way.
for second gear, i come off the gas just a bit, not all the way, and make sure to not release the clutch to fast.
the main objective i maintained was to simply not spin the wheels, but stay as close to the edge of traction as possible with regard to the initial acceleration.
Hope this helps some, i will get my times posted for wwweb later tonight
peace!

Nice, man. I haven't been down the 1/4 mile in a while. Last time I went I snapped an axle on my hybrid Accord. (good thing it was a 2 day event so I was able to leave the car and fix it the next day). I'll be there for the first street night at Englishtown this year!
Chandler, you should get some 15"steelies for the front and mount an old set of tires, or better yet, drag radials. That should improve your times and put you in the 14's!
